Also Audyssey XT32 or better room correction.
Your 4311 looks just like my beloved, old 2809.

So all you get out of it is ATMOS/DTSX and 4k past through? The 4311 has MULTIEX xt32 right?

Well that would be the cool upgrade from my 4311 and yes the 4311 has Multiex XT32. For a room that isn't sealed and has little sound absorption, the XT32 does a good job. The DSU feature will be pretty good to have with non Atmos tracks as well.

The good thing about the 7702mkII is it's about as future-proof as any reasonably priced pre/pro out there.
It handles UHD, 4K, Atmos, room correction, etc.
I don't know what it can't or won't be able to do in the near future...

Yep and especially when compared to a 4K Pj right now. I also like the look of the Marantz, simple and elegant!

All this talk of upgrades is no longer acceptable here. I too have had my eye on Marantz, though not ready to step up to the separates,I've been looking at the SR 7010.More than I need but if some is good, more is better...within reason. Point is,peer pressure will have me keeping up with the crowd.

Man honestly I would be happy with a Denon 5200. I am just cross shopping and rattling things in my head. Most importantly is that I actually find a deal that keeps me out of the dog house. I would also need to buy a 5 channel amp to go with that Mk2 separate so I am a ways from that but I am working on the 7.2.2 system in this home.

I have never been on a cruise but I have been all over the Med and it is awesome!

I just found out a really cool Stephen King short story, 'I am the Doorway' is in development! It is about an astronaut that is returning from exploring the planet Pluto. He is broken and sees crazy hallucinations, and the possibility that aliens are among us! It is a cool short story and should be a good sci/horror movie. http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/152...n-development/

Speaking of Pluto. Nasa released this close up of it's north pole today.

Quote:
Frozen Canyons of Pluto's North Pole: This ethereal scene captured by our New Horizons spacecraft
tells yet another story of Pluto's diversity of geological and compositional features-this time in an
enhanced color image of the north polar area. Long canyons run vertically across the polar area. The
widest of the canyons is about 45 miles (75 kilometers) wide and runs close to the north pole. The degraded
walls of these canyons appear to be much older than the more sharply defined canyon systems elsewhere on
Pluto, perhaps because the polar canyons are older and made of weaker material. These canyons also appear
to represent evidence for an ancient period of tectonics.

Separates are only desirable if you want great sound.

Ha! I left my company on an extremely short notice but we use to have lunch (steaks, BBQ, or In-N-Out)/ a few beers every Friday. Granted this was only at my branch and I have no idea what they did at other branches.

Yeah, I really liked the price of the 5200, or old 7702, but I knew that in less than a year would psychologically suck not to have DTS-X. DSU works great but native would be that much better - right?

HDCP 2.2 does not matter much to me today since it will be a few years until a 4k pj hits my budget and the Fury is an easy workaround.

I upgraded amps and to XT32 over just XT. I get a bigger thrill of what these have brought to the table, even more than ATMOS. Which is a MAJOR surprise for me since the whole project was targeting atmos. Not that atmos is lacking, or any different than my expectations. Without the amps or xt32, atmos would have been a nice upgrade, but not mind blowing since my surrounds already image pretty well. The immersive bubble of sound IS really cool and upmixing legacy tracks adds a lot of life to them. Anywho, just another take on it.

I noticed that right away! I went from an entry level Denon (1908) with MultiEQ and it did a decent job of 7.1, but nothing what XT32 does!

Maybe not NOW, but it will.

UHD players are able to downrez to 1080.
And since most discs will have ATMOS tracks, will you be buying a UHD player to take advantage of the audio before a new PJ?

Nice Jean-luc pic.

Hard to say WHAT will happen with UHD. Very disappointing to see The Martian UHD released without ATMOS, even though it had it theatrically? Hopefully, in time, this will happen less and less but is a bit of a head scratcher...

Agreed.
If it and FF4 been released with ATMOS there was a good chance I would have picked up the Samsung player already.

Gotcha, is somewhere in my queue.

Was wondering if I would have to pick up a uhd player to consistently get the immersive formats. But, there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason yet so I am hoping to hold out for the oppo.

This year will be interesting how consistently the new releases come out on UHD as well? And, how they treat the audio? Like The Martian?Only in the UHD box? No UHD version just Bluray??

We just had to buy the Good Dinosaur bluray since we will be doing a kid's movie night. I would have purchased the UHD version if it had Atmos, but was just DTS-hd (and bluray only), even though it was theatrically released in ATMOS. What a mess...
