With ATMOS and DTS: X it's all about having the speaker array to support them.

Congrats! It is a great unit.

Many believe that, so far, DTS-X puts more discreet sounds into the ceiling, but is still just a nuance. When my unit was DSU only I ended up bumping the ceiling trim levels a little higher to my taste. Just like bumping LFE trim levels. If you don't go ceiling speakers, and many don't really need to, you just bought it for half price over the almost identical mk2.

I agree with this but if the sound designer drops the ball, with regard to ceiling content, then there is minimal impact over surrounds that image well.

Many ATMOS and DSU mixes there is a bubble of sound that most refer to. When I look up at my ceiling speakers I can localize the sound coming from them. When I look back to the screen it is more a sense of completely being surrounded, or enveloped, in sound. Side and back surrounds blend in with the ceiling speakers. Dtsx, and it's upmixer Neural X, tend to mix the ceiling speakers a little more aggressively so they stand out more often - so far. I keep saying this, horror will eventually really benefit from ceiling content.

I have to say seeing a ton of speakers in a Atmos commercial cinema is pretty badass! From the front row to the back row, there are enough speakers to put everyone in the bubble!

"Crimson Peak" is at "the box" and then sent YAPC this morning (Yet Another Promo Code). Probably watch it tomorrow night.

I use alternative medicine and haven't had a cold or flu in years. Easy to turn around the slightest symptom with stuff you'll find in your kitchen cabinet.

Thanks. I do plan on going with ceiling speakers and have already come to terms with DSU handling DTS:X. One of the selling points for me was that my unit is actually able to have Dolby upmix DTS content. Many other folks that can't get the DTS:X upgrade are unable to use DSU to upmix the signal, so they are stuck with the DTS: Master Audio track. After I make a decision on balanced cables and an appropriate rack to handle my new Outlaw behemoth, I'll be shifting my attention to researching ceiling speakers.

I can see the benefit of having a uniform enveloping sound and a discrete, aggressive approach to mixing a movie with ceiling speakers. Both sound like a lot of fun!!

How does "alternative medicine" ward off a virus?

I've been following it for some time. Now is a good time for me to purchase,if I hold off I might not be able to do it for awhile. Probably more than I need at the moment but at least I have room to upgrade speakers and such in the next year or so.

Watched Tusk. Liked it.

Reminded me a bit of The Human Centipede.

Also, I bought Among the Sleep on Steam last Sunday. It's a relatively short horror game where you play as a child and, I think, go through/fear things that small children are scared of. It has a lot of good atmosphere, visuals, and sound.

FWIW, I think the unit would "future-proof" your HT as being 4K-Ready (so to speak).
Whether or not you go to a 4K display any time soon (inevitably you will at some point) isn't really important right now.
The fact you will be ready-to-go will make it simpler and less stressful.

BTW, are you watching qualifying LIVE tonite?

Not only have I used "alternative medicine" for over 40 years but taken courses in it with particular emphasis on Indian Ayurvedic Medicine. That included a trip to India to visit some of the schools and facilities.

Now I'll let you get back to your Indian Pale Ale.
