I used one of my free Redbox DVD codes from Jolly Time for the "Midnight Special" DVD rental. It's a Warner sci-fi movie with Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton and Kirsten Dunst so won't be on Netflix or Hulu any time soon. The DVD seemed to have a stinky transfer. I should have checked to see if it was a single layer. And the box didn't have it in BD (the code is also good for a discount on those). The movie was okay but I thought the ending a bit disappointing. Three and a half goggles.

I liked this one and it reminded me of Daryl. Sound is pretty damn good too!

Agree. Starman-ish and a nice break from what's passing as sci-fi these days.

Shannon needs one more sci fi/mind bender along the lines of this and Take Shelter so there's a trilogy.

Found a competent and visually stunning animated sci-fi feature today on Netflix. These are getting rare. Very good English dub from a recognizable voice actor if you're a Cowboy Bebop fan.

In a stroke of luck I came across another great animated feature today.

If you're a zombie, Frankenstein, Penny Dreadful type you'll enjoy this steampunk Victorian alternate history anime. Gorgeous animation and a thoughtful storyline help it out.

Wait, WHAT? The SteveW from this thread? It sounded like his health issues were under control. Damn, that sucks.

Yes. I was blind sided by this news too. I thought he was doing much better. You never know. Thoughts and prayers to his wife and kids.

Wow, sorry to hear that. But like you said you never know. I have thought that every day after I turned 50 was a gift.

Man this isn't something I wanted to hear about today....My thoughts and prayers go to his wife and kids.

Steve loved cars and Horror movies, kinda like most guys here on AVS. Even though we don't see each other physically or are a part of everyones lives here, when things like this happens, it hurts.

Wow. Very sad news indeed. Hoping his wife and kids can pull through this. October movie viewing will be dedicated to Steve.

By it's nature horror has death, but it's still fantasy. When people we know and interact with die, it's very real. Too real.
Can't think of anything else to say. We'll miss Steve.

Agreed. Maybe we can all try to watch some movies that Steve really liked also.

He mentioned his Amazon delivery for The Thing got pushed back to October 11th. Maybe we should group watch it on that day.

When your number is up there's not much you can do. I recall he recently posted about having his first cocktail in 8 weeks, a vodka cranberry I think, and it tasting yummy. Ya gotta enjoy the little things. I will have a cocktail for our fallen amigo tonight. I haven't hit the big 5-0 yet. But I can feel the bones getting brittle.

Good idea. We should all have our Things delivered the same day and can dedicate and rename Oct. 11th Steve's Thing Day. Or STD for short.
