Those pictures look intense! The make up is as good as horror movies!

That last pic doesn't scare but makes me happy!

"Dark" is a psychological thriller on Netflix and last night's view. It's about a woman who fears someone in her apartment during the 2003 power outage in New York. Three candles.

Two reasons I haven't used Shudder is 1) no Android TV support and 2) I've seen the vast majority of their movies. 247 Horror has Android TV support and a lot of junk movies I haven't seen and some are okay. Downside is that some of the films are the wrong aspect ratio and really aren't HD. They are usually 960x540 16:9. "House of Horrors", a somewhat okay B-movie should be 1280x540 which would be 21:9. I probably won't stick around after the month sub is over but there are a few interesting titles there. Some are also on Shudder.

May do a "Poltergeist" fest on Hulu+ since all 3 are there. Maybe "Troll" as I saw "Troll 2" a couple years back and it was hoot it was so bad.

VUDU has deal to own "The Thing" HDX for $5. They have a number of titles on that deal.
I started to watch Dark last night. The opening scene was a surprise lol.
I did not get to see it all because I was sleepy and will continue tonight. So far it's a little slow.

6. Slugs (FTV)
Carnivorous slugs with a taste for human flesh take over a small town in upstate New York. This 1987 movie is packed with characters, all the better for a high body count. We have the concerned public utilities workers, the bureaucratic disbelievers, hormone-crazed teens, clueless old folks, you know the drill. My favorite was the high school science teacher who's got it all figured out, he's got a British accent because that's what smart people have, apparently. Anyway, the gratuitous nudity is aplenty (literally within the first 30 seconds a girl pulls off her pants) and the special effects are spectacularly bloody. The acting is laughable and so is the dialogue, much of which was dubbed since several of the actors did not speak English, but this added to the fun. Sure there are better horror movies but in terms of entertainment, you could do a lot worse than Slugs.

3.5 out of 5 stars.

I'm too lazy to write reviews this year unless it is a FTV, I'm all about low expectations.

Last night was Event Horizon - 5 corpsicles
This should have had a sequel by now, really there has not been a more visceral scifi horror flick since that I can recall.

The Birds - 3.5 crows
Been a long time since I've watched this and it was streaming on one of my Sling channels last night. Good stuff, enjoyed seeing this classic once again.

Hmm, I haven't seen this yet. Maybe a couples night?

I hit a couple of low budget flics.

#9 Deep In The Darkness 2014 FTV. This probably has as many dumb character decisions as any movie I have seen lately. Big city doctor buys a practice in a small town and is immediately exposed to the strange inner workings of the town which has been manipulated for hundreds of years by prehistoric looking cave dwellers. Yeah, doesn't make much sense but if you take a drink for every stupid character move...well you would pass out before the movie is over. Is pretty laughable, but with a decent budget and cast (Dean Stockwell) that seems to buy in.

3 So bad it's good Zombie cave dwellers

#10 SEVERED 2005 FTV. Now this IS a low budget zombie movie. Loggers and environmental activists deep in the Canadian forest when genetic engineering, used to try and speed up tree growth, goes horribly wrong. A freak accident gets mutant tree sap into the blood system of a logger instantly turning him into a flesh eating zombie. This Zombie Zero goes on to infect most of the logging crew and activists turning them into more Zombies. This sets the stage for a small group of loggers and activists to try to work together for any chance to survive. Made in 2005 but had a late 70's feel to it.

3 Not fast, but not slow Zombies

This movie had potential to be decent! HR Giger work was awesome and they should have released this in 3D like originally planned!

I forgot what number I was on but I watched House on Haunted Hill ('99) today via my dvr and surprisingly it has great audio! I also know that the US BD version was never released but I am thinking about importing the German version since it is region free. The lossless audio has to be killer! Anyhoo, this movie is just fun and I wish they would release more of these films today! 4 Cashier checks!

Oh I finally bought the Conjuring 2 from target. I used a $5 gift card from my flu shot and got this movie!

Well the annual marathon is already several days old so I thought I'd pop in. Great to see all of the reviews and comments!

I don't have a lot of time at the moment to make many comments, but here is what I've watched so far (all are first time viewings)...

Monster Brawl (2011) - I usually like to kick off the annual October horror movie marathon with either a classic movie that I highly regard, otherwise something like this that might be considered goofy, silly or funny. I had recorded this off a commercial-free movie channel and was glad I did rather than actually pay to see it. It wasn't bad, it's basically a series of wrestling matches between various horror characters some known and some unknown. Not scary and not funny (although I did get a handful of chuckles), I rate this 4 out of 10.

The Bell Witch Haunting (2004) - Actually not too shabby considering they had a limited budget to make this. Settings, scenery and clothing, etc., made it believable that this movie was set in the early 1800's. Loved how the spirit freely communicates with the living. 5 out of 10.

Re-Animator (1985) - Fun, funny, gory, and hugely entertaining, I got a lot of laughs out of this! A couple of disturbing scenes but great comedy horror. 8.5 out of 10.

Martin (1977) - This lesser-known George Romero movie is definitely strange but also good. Flashback sequences are great as are some of the sound effects. Tense excellent scene about mid-way through the movie. Unfortunately this one did falter quite a bit in the final one-third of the movie but I was still glad I saw it. 6.5 out of 10.

The Demon's Rook (2013) - Originally I had planned to watch Spirits of the Dead from 1968 which I recorded on my cable box from TCM, but when I went to play it back, it was an entirely different movie than what it had listed. So, I improvised and watched The Demon's Rook instead. And wow, I was glad I did! This is definitely the surprise hit of the month so far. Questionable acting at times and the demon outfits could use a little work but otherwise solid. I liked the zombies and how this film was very bloody and gory. Great music and sound effects. 8 out of 10.

Them! (1954) - This classic science fiction horror about ants that get mutated into huge sizes as a result of nuclear testing is a little slow and doesn't have a great amount of action but largely makes up for this with decent story and good build up and suspense. 7 out of 10.

So there you have it for now, it's been a lot of fun so far! As always, I will try to continue to add movies to my list this month where possible. Great to see everyone having a good time this year as always.

7. Clown (FTV)
A father finds an old clown costume to wear for his son's birthday party, only to find later that it will not come off. It seems to have fused itself to his body somehow, and it doesn't help that co-workers and family simply think he is losing his mind. To make matters worse, his body starts to transform and he begins to develop strange cravings, and before long the situation has spiraled out of control.

It would be easy to dismiss Clown as the same type of Cronenberg-ian body transformation horror that we've seen in works like "The Fly". But it's also the first horror movie I've seen that taps into the very personal rage and embarrassment we feel when we do something stupid like stubbing a toe or biting our own tongue. If you've ever sat in an emergency room at a hospital you see the look on people's faces: "Why the hell did this happen to me?" Ultimately it is this self-realization of our own mortality that drives the horror in Clown, although let's face it, most people will watch this just to be scared by the creepy clown. In that respect it also delivers the goods--the climactic scene at a children's arcade is both hilarious and horrifying.

4 out of 5 stars.

"Conjuring 2" arrives at the box next Tuesday. "Clown" has been hanging out nearby so I rented it for tonight.

"American Horror Story" will have to suffice for last night since I oinked "The Secrets of Emily Blair" on Netflix after about 15 minutes.

Clown. LOL, we got a email from the school system that a lot of folks are freaked out by "all" the clown sightings going on etc. They said this is all a social media joke or hysteria and not to play into it. My daughter now is telling me kids have mentioned the clown sightings and some are even a little spooked by it.

#11 STUNG 2015 FTV. This was pretty well done. Good idea, good mix of comedy and action. Good effects and anything with Lance Henriksen is a good start. Good FX for the wasps. Something about the main guy was like he was channeling a young Bill Murray and not being real. At the end of the flic I really didn't care what happened. Probably just me.

#12 The Abandoned 2015 FTV. Kind of similar to Mirrors if anyone remembers that. But this time from the perspective of a young woman struggling to deal with her own demons and responsibilities. Pretty standard stuff but abused ghost kids angle plays an emotional note that is not much fun. The ending is one that can make the movie better or kind of ruin it pending how you look at it. I fall in the latter group.

I don't think it was the weather knocking out your signal. There were reports of a Tall Man hanging around the BSZ satellite dish last night.

Keeping with the Phantasm theme.
Spoiler!

Lol. Nothing good can come from clowns hanging around schools.

Yeah, Stung was fun and agree on Lance Henriksen.
