Thanks Wabo. THO is actually banned from Christmas party this year, check the Midnight World News when you're in the check-out line at the grocery store for details.

I watched it again last night on the 4k set, not in 4k but whatever it's doing to it makes it look amazing. The FF games are known for pushing visuals to the max. This latest XV, is killer on the home theater with audio. I feel bad for tv or sound bar users. They are missing out.

I forgot to ask you guys. I am thinking about upgrading to a 120" (dia) .8 gain in a grey screen color to help with better black colors. I have a jack of all trades Sony pj that is good but on my screen really dark scenes and the black bars tend to be a dark grey color than black. My screen is white, close to a 1.4 gain now. Will I notice a difference in performance? Or should I just order a 120" in white and save a little money?

I bet 4K tvs bring out the best in great BDs!

I think it's a combination of a better screen and the better "motion plus" or whatever smoothing they are doing.

I have a Stewart Firehawk grey screen. Think it's 1.3 gain. If you don't have a light controlled room I'd probably recommend a gray screen. I have light control, but my walls and ceiling are light colored. Wife wouldn't sign off on a bat cave. So I went with the Firehawk. Works great for me. YMMV. Although now my projector is slowly dying. It's always something.

Thanks, BSZ. Is this a stand alone FF movie or part of a series?

Thanks man for the advice! Most of my walls are a light grey except for a dark grey wall my screen is on. My room is dark but not bat cave dark.

I think they are tied all together via video games and movies.

It's a prequel to the newest game. Most of the FF series are related in name only with a set of thematic elements that pop up across many of them. That said, the other movies are decent if you like computer animation.

With so many variables it's hard to tell without just getting a screen in there and looking at it. A lot of companies will send free samples of their screen material if you contact them. I had a grey screen years ago when I had a setup in a living room with tons of windows. It did help the blacks, but it made everything a little too dark with the lights out and seemed to "muddy" the whites. Unless you watch with a decent amount of ambient light; or your projector is a light cannon that can easily make up for the brightness hit; I'd usually just recommend a neutral 1.0 white screen in most settings.

Thanks man for your advice! I just checked Amazon for the gain and the grey is 1.0 gain, not .8.

I would get the best neutral gain screen you can. You will probably upgrade your PJ at some point and now you have a great screen for the new pj as well. Not a fan of gray screens, is this 2004?

I like pop and dynamics. IF you really want to improve your picture quality lose the painted walls. All painted walls, no matter what color, reflect light from the PJ. Most screens shoot the reflected light everywhere. Find a cool fabric your wife likes and make panels to cover the walls. Or, install drapes, or at least cover as much of the wall between you and your screen as you can. IMO, just about ANY fabric color will be better at absorbing light from the screen, as long as the fabric is not shiny. I had red painted walls, then black painted walls (flat paint) then went to red Guilford of Maine material to cover the walls. My retro-reflective screen throws most of its light straight back to the viewer and does not scatter light like most unity gain screens. But, even with this I could see a DEFINATE improvement in PQ going from paint to fabric.

Kingslaive was a lot of fun!!

Can you hold out until January? IIRC you have the JVC, flagship model from circa 2010ish. 2016 version is due out in just a few weeks and only $35,000.

Preorder your Phantasm sphere Christmas ornament. This thing is pretty cool. Unfortunately it doesn't ship until Jan. 2017. I'd keep my tree up just to hang it on there.

That makes sense and I think that would be a fun project! Between the two colors there is only .3 gain difference. 120" is my max unless I go woven screen.

If you want to turn your Christmas music to 11, they released the DEATHGASM (lower case is for p_ssies) soundtrack on vinyl.

Cabo sounds like he knows what he's talkin bout. This is not my area of expertise. I've always used direct-view displays, but would it perhaps help to lighten the area behind or around the screen? It would probably have to be done in such a way that it doesn't cast more ambient light into the room though (if that's possible). Direct-view users refer to this as "bias lighting".

Siren is pretty cool if you are in the mood for a creature feature. Is a bit like The Hangover meets Spring or Thale, with a little Jeepers Creepers and Hellboy mixed in - though not as good and with a 100th of the budget.

Man Don't Breath is the business! Also the sound design is top notch! Bass heads will love this film as well!

"The Devil's Dolls" is a new Netflix addition I watched last night. Maybe a bit too predictable though well done to be given much more than 3 drill bits.

"From Dusk to Dawn" season 3 has also been added on Netflix though I may have to drag my feet to watch as season 2 already was showing a lack of ideas.
