With VOD the distribution costs are lower and going direct to a streaming service still reasonable. Theatrical is a lot more expensive and many people get a cut of the profits.
Many a younger film maker wants their film(s) in theater. It puts your work out there and who wouldn't want it. Quite a number have been told if you're lucky you'll get VOD.
I don't like it's come to this, but welcome to film economics 2017

Ok I just played a few minutes of the new resident evil on PS4 and it is seriously creepy! I actually stopped playing because I didn't want to open a door! This game must be crazy with the VR!!!

Last night's pick was "Halloweed" which is a stoner comedy on Netflix. It was okay for a few laughs. Three and a half doobies.

I saw Split today in the theater. Really had a great time, this is the true M. Night Shyamalan comeback film, and that's coming from someone who has been hurt by him many times! Amazing performance(s) by James McAvoy. Just a good creepy fun thriller, don't overanalyze it too much and you'll enjoy.

This is the one were the kids are trying to go to Cochella right?

Side note, I caught the last bit of this drama movie and it had some crazy suicides or suicide attempts in it. Man it was just depressing watching this unfold and I realized how humans are complicated..emotionally. I will stick to the rivers and streams I know, like horror flicks lol!

Good to hear. I enjoyed The Visit and was hoping for something just as good or better with Split. Probably won't catch it in the theater, but will definitely rent or buy when it's released for home viewing.

Since the wife is out for the week I have been playing games and watching movies. Last night I found a fun movie in Amazon called Thirst. Not a shaky cam but a creature feature. Not a bad movie and it reminds me of the old B horror flicks!

Watched about the first hour of "Phenomena" the 1985 Dario Argento film with Jennifer Connelly, Donald Pleasance and Patrick Buchau on 247 Horror. It's presented there in the original 116 minute version and HD 1:66:1 (black bars on the side). That aspect ratio has been around since the Lumiere Brothers launched their camera/projector the late 1800s to compete with Edison. I figured their film at the time must of have been for the popular post card size photo of 3x5. And the US got stuck with the "square ratio". I will watch the rest of it tonight after seeing what episode 2 of "Legion" is about.

Just watched XX. Contains four short horror films. Overall, it was alright with the "Happy Birthday" one being the weakest.

I don't know if any of you here are into philosophy or psychology but lately I've been sucked into this Canadian psychologist, Jordan B. Peterson. If you need a scenery change from the news or whatever give some of his videos a shot. The easiest 10,000 foot view of him is a recent Joe Rogan podcast.

As I posted in the JW2 thread. Saw John Wick 2 last night and it did not disappoint. Let me put it this way. If the members of the Academy weren't such wusses this would sweep the Oscars. Wick kicks ass. This will be bananas when it comes out on BD.

I would wait till after Oscar time because it might go on sale. That is when I would buy. You can rent it at redbox or NF with the lossless track. I am torn between buying the soundtrack on vinyl or the movie in 4K. Along with this and a host of other movies (one game too) I am buying within the month.
