Truthfully, I guess I never gave any of newer horror films any chance. Plus, I really don't have anybody I could go with who likes horror like I do and it's just more fun when you go with someone else.
But, I will see if I can pick up these and some others that may not be as "main stream"

The Decent
The Crazies
REC
REC[2]
Scilence of the lambs
Zombieland

As I said, if I went through this thread, I am sure I can find some more.

Add House of the Devil and 100 Feet to get out of the mainstream modern horror while seeing modern horror.

Check out the French film Inside, I promise it is like nothing you've seen.

House of the Devil is excellent but it is a slow cooker so if that's not your thing be warned. I personally love the slow cookers so long as the pay off is big. Audition was another example, very slow but great 20 min ending. I also think The Midnight Meat Train should get more love, give that one a chance, it's got Bradley Cooper in it so you can sell that to your sweetie and Leslie Bibb for us:p

I don't mind slow cookers. The Midnight Meat Train looks intense. But I also like just stuff that is spooky and not necessarily gory. The Others is good example of that with a great twist.

The Others was good, I like creepy as well but those seem hard to find. I actually really like the mind fawks the best... I'd say Triangle probably holds the title for that. I had to do some reading after that one to digest everything but once I really got it I was very impressed, there was a lot of buzz about that one here and in the bluray forums a while back. Probably another reason I like Pontypool so much. It is a movie that really allows the minds of the audience to run with suggestions, ideas, and sound to create the picture of what is going on, brilliant film.

Quick update on my The Thing blood test. I was talking to a guy who sells horror props and he said he could do what I was looking for. @$15 shipped I couldn't pass it up & he had this ready in a couple days. I'll have the spool of red copper wire soon.
Can't wait to get it! & thanks Kenobi for the pointers.

I go for supernatural over gore. HOTD and 100 Feet you should like then. Lake Mungo is creepy in a real way too.

The Objective is good supernatural horror thriller about a team of special ops lead by a CIA agent who go into Afghanistan right after 9-11 to find a guy who can explain the unusual heat signatures that satellites have found. It's also available on Amazon Instant Video (I stumbled across it there but went and found that Netflix had it) and on iTunes. I loved the spin of what the "heat signatures" turned out to be. wink.gif

I've been striking out lately, just watched The Woman in Black last night... what a piece of crap. Nothing but teenage jump scares with a tired shallow story and a fantastically bland cast of characters... FAIL!

I did The Dead last weekend. Always a sucker for a zombie flic.redface.gif

Started off ok and, like most reviews warned, it got a little redundant and the ending was pretty obvious. Not the worst but could have been a lot better.

OK. I bought Zombieland and The Crazies today and I watched Zombieland. I thought it was fantastic. The correct amount of gore but it funny as hell. Too bad there aren't more horror/comedies like this or Shaun of the dead. The store I went to did not have any others on my list so I will check one more store and then just order on line if I have to. Any thoughts on The Devils Rejects? They had a few more at the store and I will get the names and list them here to get feedback. So far the one recommendation that I got was stellar smile.gif.

Wow, a lot of action going on here in the last 36 hours. Many good recommendations. HOTD, Inside, Lake Mungo, Triangle and Midnight Meat Train are all purchase-worthy. I do like the Devil's Rejects; however, it's nothing compared to House of 1000 Corpses. As many on here know, it is one of my favorite all-time flicks.

On a side note, I recently bought Masters of Horror Season 1 Volumes 1 & 2 as well as Hellraiser and Behind the Mask. I get bored sometimes and shop Amazon for blu-rays for shittz and gigs.

Tonight we're watching We Are The Night, I believe.........................but with Devil's Rejects being brought up; I might just go that route instead. It's been awhile for that one.

BTW fellas, LOVE this thread. biggrin.gif

Has anybody watched the latest SYFY offerings? Jersey Shore Shark Attack was exactly as you'd expect. Cheesy but still kind of fun. Piranahconda was pretty crappy & had lots of bikinis. I think they have a couple more new ones coming out this summer.

So, i've seen MANY horror movies, and these are probally the 3 scariest i've seen,
Insidious
amittyvile horror : Not the one where the stupid boy runs around with a camera.
The woman in black.
Also just so you guys know,
Carrie sucks, She doesnt even know she's killing people so it's not very good. Also jason sucks too. Uhm, Chuckies bride scared me when i saw it, and zombie movies are always good but there not reaally 'scary' their more of a thrill.

So we watched We Are The Night, an all-female German vampire flick. It was actually quite good. A refreshing addition to the played out vampire genre.

Kenobi, I completely agree with the cheap scare aspect of The Woman in Black. I thought the story was okay and I enjoyed the overall atmosphere, but as a whole it was pretty average. Definitely a one-time rental.

Wizzack, 100 days is too long. I keep wasting potential candidates. I think I'll be able to save my new blu-ray copy of Hellraiser, but Behind the Mask ain't gonna make it. Might even watch it tonight along with an episode from Masters of Horror. cool.gif As far as SyFy is concerned, I usually skip over their flicks unless its October, although they do occasionally have some really good ones on there (or maybe I'm confusing it with the Chiller Channel). Either way, I'm not a big fan of edited movies. I like nudity and foul language way too much. biggrin.gif
