World War Z is an upcoming post-apocalyptic horror film directed by Marc Forster and written by Matthew Michael Carnahan. It is based on the novel of the same name by Max Brooks. Brad Pitt stars as Gerry Lane, a worker at the United Nations, as he searches the globe for information that can stop the zombie outbreak that is bringing down nations. World War Z - Wikipedia

These zombies seem to move a lot faster than in other movies, maybe they workout?

Agreed.....and so far the trailer looks nothing like what I was hoping/expecting. It looks like a great zombie movie - just not World War Z.

Not from what I can see. The studio clearly just took the book's title and threw out everything else.

Epic trailer for a film that had epic troubles from start to finish.

And it isn't finished, so the problems remain.

Snyder's DotD re-make really benefited from it.

Only if he has the gun Shane gave him...biggrin.gif

The thing I liked about the zombie genre was the allegorical potential. Romero had it with Dawn of the Dead, how we are trapped by our consumerism. I like the angle that modern society is filled with living zombies. People not paying attention to the world around us. How many times have I ran into a neighbor, or aquaintence, at a supermarket or seen them next to me waiting at a light and you can hardly get their attention because they are stuck in their own world or routine. We are so out to lunch, and physically challenged, we cannot even stop an apocolypse one zombie at a time. Zombies are the day to day burdens and pressures, if you don't pay attention to them they gradually build up - and then you are screwed. biggrin.gif

Fast zombies are obviously more threatening, but to me, just a basic movie/action device, and easier to fall into a Resident Evil franchise lack of meaning crapfest.

Well said, these are some of the reasons I like movies that break the mold a bit such as Pontypool and even Exit Humanity was pretty solid.
After watching the trailer for this I think it looks pretty badass... bionic zombie masses! Reminds me of all the rats piling over each other in The Last Crusade when they were trying to escape the firs in the catacombs in Venice... but this looks a bit scarier wink.gif

So it is going to wind up another tentpole movie for the summer? All action and no sense? Is that why Pitt and the director weren't speaking at the end of production?

Don't you know it! That is it exactly.

To me, looking at the trailer this looks like 2012 meets I Am Legend or every zombie outbreak virus before everyone is all dead scenario. tongue.gif

From the looks of the trailer, absolutely terrible. I'm getting whiffs of I am Legend / I Robot, with less Will Smith.

Eh. We'll see. Too much "Hollywood" in the trailer but I guess that has to be given it's a big production movie. And like Josh and maybe others noticed, a zombie movie with a title to give credibility before the movie premiers and yet nothing like the book the title comes from. I didn't recognize anything in the trailer that was in the book. I can't remember if the zombies ran in the book. smile.gif Did they? Of course I'll give it a watch when it hits disc, but it looks like it's going to be an also-ran when it comes to good zombie movies.

I'm thinking how the bar gets lower and lower as time goes by and can't help being reminded of the recent South Park episode where James Cameron goes down in his diving bell to raise the bar. smile.gif Great episode!

Thanks, that's what I thought. Although I did think of something that was the same in the book - the sheer number of zombies.

Well, I'm reading the book now, and at one point the narrator comments that they move slow, but they can move pretty fast when they want to.

I saw promos for this on TV, and assumed it was coming out soon, but it turns out its not due for release until June 2013. Why are they showing previews on TV already for a movie that doesn't come out for eight months?

To whip up some enthusiasm in the marketplace.
Apparently, the production has been troubled and the producers are hoping to get out something positive early.

Don;t forget too, this was in development hell, and there were even rumors of Pitt trying to back out.

This isn't going to be a good movie. Not going to do the book a service, and would have been better as a HBO mini, where the disjointed story would have worked better.
