I wouldn't pay 5 cents to see this CGI mess. My wife watched the promo for it and didn't realise it was a zombie film until I pointed out what he Z stood for in the title.

I might watch the butchered version on broadcast tv, if there's no grass tpo watch or drying paint...

You should read Kyle Smith's review at the New York Post. Quite amusing.

Thanks for the reactions. I have been intrigued about this especially since EW gave it a high grade but the fact that I hate this director's work and they had to redo the entire ending of the movie made me think that this movie can't be good. I think I'll wait until its at a discount theater of just on cable.

Jerry. Just remember. Its not a lie . . . if you believe it. GC

I just went to watch this last night with my wife and I have to say this. Movie is AWESOME! It is packed with action from beginning to end and will keep you at the edge of your seat. I'm not really a fan of zombies and neither is my wife but this was really well done. Definitely a Movie Theater experience. We watched in in 2D. If you liked I am Legend which I did you will love World War Z. 5 stars for me, there aren't that many movies out there that are so packed with intense action throughout the whole movie these days.

Ditto on the above comment. This movie is all kinds of awesome. Very suspenseful, lots of finger gnawing moments. The Missus had her hands to her face nearly the entire movie. It rocks and rocks hard from nearly the opening bell all the way through.

Now the bad news: way too much shakycam. Not necessary. Too many scenes, you just have no idea what's going on. One example: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
When the young Israeli soldier gets her hand chomped by a "zeke", Brad chops off the whole hand to (hopefully) avoid infection. I didn't even realize what had happened until he was changing her bandage on the plane.

Matthew Fox was supposedly in this movie, as well as 'Rubicon's James Badge Dale. Didn't recognize either one. Did notice a couple of the stars from another great TV series (that, like 'Rubicon', nobody has seen), HBO's 'Treme'. Guess it's rated PG-13; you see far more zombie-killin', flesh-chompin' gore on an average episode of 'The Walking Dead'.

Now I want to read the book to find out how they changed things from the original story. But for a summertime action thriller, WWZ delivers. I don't go to many movies anymore, but glad I went to this one.

If you liked the movie, you're going to love the book. As mentioned earlier, the movie really deviates from the book. Once you start, you can't put it down until the wife shouts, "It's 3AM! Are you coming to bed or what?"

Surprisingly good movie. After hearing about all of the trouble with the production, and the horrible CG in the early trailers, I expected a bucket of crap. My expectations were not met at all. This was a very entertaining movie, and a plain old good movie to boot. it was what a summer blockbuster needs to be. Not so bad that any and all plot holes practically scream at you, and the script, plot, idea, acting, and execution were all well done. it was indeed a good time at the movies this weekend.

I LOVE MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be seeing this tonight. I had heard plenty bad things about the production (as lordcloud mentioned above) so I am still keeping my expectations low even though it's turning out better. smile.gif

I was a hater for a long time but I do feel it is worth seeing on the big screen. My only real issue is how broken our ratings system is. Even small drops of blood have to be digitally turned black in this film (leading one to believe they are seeing drops of oil, which might make sense considering the scene) but on Broadcast Network Television they can show blood and guts galore. We are talking about buckets of blood at 9 or 10 PM.

Fun movie, though the ending seemed a bit anti-climactic. The movie could probably have been longer. Though my recollection may be wrong, it kind of reminded me of Battle Los Angeles in being pretty much a non-stop action movie, as the action in WW Z begins within 5 minutes or so and it doesn't really slow down. I don't know if originally there was the typical prelude and back-story build-up and they just decided to edit it out, or if it was always intended to start this way. Go with it and you'll have a nail-biting edge-of-your-seat good time. It's quite dark/dim in a lot of scenes, so I suspect the 3D version with gray glasses would be a disappointing experience, as some reviews warned - so we chose 2D and I'm glad we did. The horrible CGI in the trailers of the zombie pile-ups was not apparent in the movie, so they must have tweaked it before theatrical release, which was a good thing. These zombies are like a raging river, not plodders. It's shoot or get the hell out of the way, because you can't outrun or even outdrive them.

I think my issue was the CGI, Story was solid if a bit rushed(that with the movie being long). I do hope they do a sequel and I will rent it when its out. Guess its time to read the book.

Once you read the book, you'll see that it doesn't translate easily to a visual medium.

Yea, you're right. Grabbed the book while in a store and read half of it last night. Have to say that I did enjoy the film since just reading half of the book I can't see how they would have been able to do justice to all the info let alone make it comprehensible. funny how they have no mention of China at all in the film. Will be buying this ONLY if they include the 45 minute ending they cut. One thing that was disappointing about the film was the rating. Some of the descriptions of the carnage and battles in the book with the zombies would have been a definite R but probably visually pretty amazing.

That's because they were encouraged to change it by the Chinese government. By encouraged, I mean, if they wanted to release it at all there, they'd take out anything that made the country look bad. Same reason the Red Dawn remake featured the North Koreans.

ding ding ding

World War Z series with the quality of production and writing of something like Boardwalk Empire. Whoa.....
