ooooh this one looks sweet.... I can't wait!

http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/terminatorsalvation/

...which reminds me, the theme for Terminator is really the equivalent of the James Bond theme for sci-fi! simple, recognizable between 1000, unforgettable.

If it's toned down PG-13, then I won't be excited. The director is McG, so right there that is delfating.

But one can always hold out a sliver of hope.

Huh?

I agree that it is a very memorable tune. During the "Sarah Connor Chronicles," I find myself sounding out that theme for awhile after the opening credits...the same with the classic Bond them, so you're right...

Ga-gunk, gunk, ga-GUNK...Ga-gunk, gunk, ga-GUNK...Ga-gunk, gunk, ga-GUNK...Ga-gunk, gunk, ga-GUNK...Ga-gunk, gunk, ga-GUNK...

I meant memorable like the Jaws theme (2 notes), or yes, the James Bond theme. In that particular case a simple percussive pattern. You hear it and you instantly think of Terminator.
The most effective music is often the simplest; however it can have a lot of complexity behind an apparent simplicity (I'm not specifically talking about the ga-gunk theme here).

Okay, I thought the "memorable between 1000" must have been a musical term/phrase.

(I'm doing the ga-gunk thing right now actually.)

Well I noticed they kept the Aussie chick from the 'Sarah Connor Chronicles' in this film. Interesting parallel/tie-in. You have to believe it won't be horrible if Christian Bale is in it. I can't imagine he'd do that to himself, his career, or his audiences, after ALL the quality films he's done. Am I grasping at straws here?

Yep, you're grasping....

Seriously though, is the Aussie chick the skanky one that played Sarah Connors?

If so, hopefully she will be bumped off early...

Jdog's right in that Bale's pedigree is pretty solid with quality films. I can't recall a stinker of his off the top of my head (some might think Reign of Fire and/or Equilibrium are, but I don't), so hopefully this isn't his first...

The "Aussie Chick" is Stephanie Jacobsen, who also played the "Kendra Shaw" character in Battlestar Galactica: Razor.

Sarah Connor in "Chronicles" is played by Lena Headly, a British actress who has a pretty good American accent, and known for her role as "Queen Gorgo" in 300.

I'm sorry McCoy, her name in '300' was Queen 'Rediculously HOT' in that movie. My other half had no interest in that movie until I told her about that scene. Needless to say she was highly...umm...'motivated' later that evening. But I digress...

'Reign of Fire' was badass. Flat out. McConaughy played WAY against character type for sure, and the effects, even back then, were stellar. Just watched it on the new bluray the other day too. Sweetness in 1080P I gotta say.

I really can't imagine Bale going after something like this simply for the 'paycheck'. Look at 'Dark Knight'. NO chance he gets a payday bigger than that on any movie again (unless the 3rd Batman can pull it off), let alone some Terminator movie. I just don't see him doing that payday-motivation film. And with his pull now based on his success, I'd assume if something in the script seemed WAY off-base he'd flex his new-found cred and get it changed for the better. Just a thought.

Matt, I know you've had the inside track on this, has anything in your mind changed with the latest news or trailers? Some of those images in that trailer looked 'concentration camp' themed (which adds an interesting element to the story possibly). Am I correct in assuming this is a bridge-piece between the nuclear attacks and the 'future' action we're used to seeing in the flash-forwards in the previous movies/television shows?

Right, and neither Jacobsen nor Headly are in T: Salvation. I believe the girl Jdog35 is referring to in the trailer is Moon Bloodgood.

No, but in that superquick shot in the trailer she did. Especially while I was watching it on the computer screen. Color me apologetic.

I thought it was the girl from the series also until I watched it again. As for Bloodgood; why is she always being cast in time travel stories i.e. Daybreak and Journeyman? I know this isn't a time travel movie but it's predecessors obviously were.

As for Jacobsen I think she's originally from Hong Kong and not Australia.

Yeah, I noticed the Aussie girl in the trailer too. You have to remember though that Sarah Connor Chronicles is already dealing with the "multiple timeline" crap, so who knows what explanation they will throw at the movie. They will certainly need to explain her presence as well as the T3 movie somewhere down the line.

XBOX Live: Wagmman
PSN: Wagg
BFBC2: Wagman
Steam: Wag

My Second Life character looks and acts exactly like me except he can fly.

Once again, different actress, different character:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1291227/

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1089338/

As far as explaining T3 and T:SCC, you said it yourself: "multiple timelines." The way I look at it T1 and T2 happened. T3 (and Salvation) are one alternate future, Sarah Connor Chronicles is another. Even this trailer has a line stating "This is not the future my mother warned me about, something has changed."

Trailer looks good to me...of course they could always do another "lone terminator hunting Sarah and John yet again" movie, but I've always wanted to see more of the actual war. Looks to be quite a few new terminators as well (motorcycles, that big robot).

On the other side, I hope they don't go to Transformer-y with it, because that's what some of the scenes reminded me of.

I don't really care if it's rated R or PG-13. It's not really like the other terminators were really that bloody or full of swearing either, with the exception of just a couple of scenes.

The new trailer isn't really doing anything for me.....I think it'll be a PG-13 movie....Cinematography wise it looks closer to Transformers than it does to Terminator 2 and i'm not getting strong vibes from this one just yet.....The central storyline in the trailer looks just a bit dull to me.

Who knows i'll probably end up loving it.

So I pulled down both trailers and watched them.

Is it just me, or was the first trailer just a subset of the 2nd one? By that I mean the 2nd one, cut down, could have been the 1st one?

Seggers

Edit: Also it looks like one of the female characters from the SC C is in the film?

Mits 73835, Denon X4000, Emotiva UPA5 (triggered), Wharfedale Pacific Evo 40s, CS, 10s, the internet, a NAS drive, a TiVo Series 3 and an Oppo 103 (bye bye PS3). There's also a Wii, but we don't talk about that...

TERMINATOR SALVATION looks to me very promising !
i like the cinematography and the daylight photography

as for REIGN OF FIRE: one of my favorite movie with multiple views easy;
the blu ray is super sharp and a pleasure to watch.

Lena was stunning in 300 . still haven't opened my blu ray of S C Chronicles

anyone knows wich scores are used for the T SALVATION TRAILER 2 ?

thanks

Notice how these post nuke movies always take place far far away from any city or town? Notice how they are always in some desert somewhere? Why? The budget.

As a result, these all look and feel the same.

Or, the nukes obliterated all the cities and left nothing but desert.

I doubt there are many budgetary limitations on this particular movie.

Knowing what I know of vfx, the budget would have to be 400 million if the thing took place in or around the cities. Even with T2, where the future action was in the ruined cities, there were not a lot of shots. Just the big and quick battle scene at the films open.

It's amazing how good the future stuff from T1 looks. Frankly, I love the horrendously dirty look of the people and setting in T1.

Meanwhile, the females in Terminator Salvation look like the females from Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes: Clean, hair perfectly styled, faces soft and silky from Oil of Olay and teeth perfectly straight and white due to constant dental care.

Gimme a break already.
