Saw it last night.....surprised at how good it was, and how much I liked the black suit.
It won't be winning any awards, beyond sounding the "awesomest in IMAX" award, but it was a very competent and thoughtful remake. It wasn't a remake like a Psycho, where everything is a shot for shot do over. But part of the spirit of the movie was in there. Not totally, but it was in there. The movie was nowhere near as violent, and the social commentary wasn't there. But action, thoughtfulness, and political commentary were definitely there.
I didn't miss the violence, as much as I missed the emphasis on how awesome Robocop was. I also missed the emphasis on his sweet gun. I was a kid, what can I say. But this remake is good on it's own merits and I recommend anyone go see it. Especially in a theater with very good sound and very deep bass. The opening scene sounded awesome in the IMAX I saw it in.
Overall, recommend it. It's not the original, as they really are two very different, yet similar movies. This is a cleaned up, more all audiences friendly version, but still worth seeing. I'm going to have to put my new copy of the original in this weekend to compare again.
I LOVE MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!
