^ Look, dude. We get that you're the defender of this movie... Stop taking it so personally that some of us didn't like it. It's not aimed at you.

I said ship. Not hand held weapons. But, I'm sure you have a good excuse ready.

Stephen.

Chances are very good that I was drinking when I posted the above.

I was just trying to help. BTW, I am not THE defender of this movie (sounds a bit personal). I'm just one of the majority opinion.

I don't go to the threads about the movies I hate. Why you do what you do here escapes me. confused.gif

You wrote "absolutely no weapons", not about the types.

IMO, Prometheus is a fascinating movie on several levels.

1. the imaginative visuals.
2. the story about a mysterious human origin.
3. the terribly drawn characters that come incredibly close to completely destroying the film.
4. the possibilities of a kick-ass sequel of going to the Engineer's home planet.

Right, just trying to help. Your entire MO is to find little things to nitpick in people's posts, deliberately misinterpret their comments, etc. In the context of this site, you are the movie's defender.

I agree with oink's assessment above. This was a movie a lot of us wanted to be good but were ultimately disappointed with. And yes it's fun to talk about, even though we didn't like it.

Just think of how easy it would have been to "fix" Prometheus and we would have ended up with a great movie.frown.gif

The flip side of the no ship weapons issue, (which I agree is pretty risky to travel into space without), is that in Alien the ship was a 'refinery/mining towing ship' but still had to respond to intelligent communications (them just touching down on LV426 screwed them). In Aliens, they had the Sulaco's weaponry and the Marines weaponry, it only prolonged the inevitable, but also because of certain issues (Burkes/Company and the atmosphere processor) the weaponry only gave them time to run. In Prometheus, I really don't think earth weapons would've worked against the Engineers because that ship didn't even break apart after Prometheus rammed into it and we weren't shown the extent of the Engineers weaponry. Plus the dude survived the crash and still looking to kill somebody, and only the trilobite creature stopped/impregnated him. Imagine if all of those Engineers on that planet were alive!eek.gif

The promise of "It will get better in 10 years" is stunning in the many threads here and elsewhere.

People are making up their own scripts to replace this POS and promoting said assumptions (ass ump tions)
as if it will make this obvious Cow Pattie Extrodinaire some subtle bit of Work.

Any of us could rewrite the story in our head and sell it to anyone who cares to read and buy in for

greenjp, no amount of bickering after the fact will change what happened to you in the past. You fumbled the debate because you were unprepared. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1480215/ridley-scott-has-lost-his-damn-mind/60#post_23510414

Once in awhile a movie comes along that is bi-polar.
Within one single film, we get spectacular highs and abysmal lows.
Prometheus is one of those....which is why it still fascinates.

I read that it was Elvis, but you can't believe everything you read on the Internet. If true, those death rumors we've been hearing about for the past 37 years will be dispelled.

^ The news report said, "He hopped a fence". It wouldn't be as suspicious if it said, "climbed a fence".

I've asked what Vickers said at the beginning of the conference meeting in the big hall (gym?) of the ship after everyone woke up from the suspended animation. Ridley Scott has lost his damn mind No one really got it. Not only that, her expression during that conference meeting plays an important role as well as her private talk with Peter Weyland once he woke up and got ready to meet the "engineer".

From Prometheus sequel thread:

So yes, I agree with what you just said above, mostly.
As NorthSky said, it all ties into an "ensemble" and sheds light on why some of the scenes are the way they are despite the initial impression of stupidity or nonsense. I didn't catch those details from my first viewing of this movie in the theater. Only after multiple viewing (because I was curious about those scenes which most of the criticisms were focused on) when the disc came out , I began to recognize the subtle details that weren't noticeable before. This movie has a rather fast pace and if you blink once, a lot can be missed. RS is good at making movies that make people want to or have to see multiple times to "get it" and this movie has proven that quite effectively. What I mean by "effectively" is, just look at the volume of discussion it still creates even 2 years after the release.

If you care to see it multiple times, here's what will start to become clearer about the characters in this movie. The following is by no means the complete description but it's for addressing the points that many of the criticisms about the so called "blunder" of this movie.

Peter Weyland: He knows his days are numbered but wanted to live longer and continue / expand his corporate empire. He was willing to go just about any length to do it. When a man gets desperate, he tends to do things that may appear crazy to us.

Meredith Vickers: She wants it to be her time to take over the Weyland Corporation and her father's refusal to move on pissed her off. She wasn't thrilled about this trip which can possibly work against her ambition and didn't care to make sure that she personally hired the best scientists possible. There's a slight clue that possibly she wanted to sabotage this mission to make Peter Wayland live longer when she said, "Son of a bitch, they were right." when the headless body of engineer laying down in the cave was shown on the screen, then the captain of the ship responded, "You wanted them to be wrong?". She planned the double whammy against this mission, 1, she didn't even believe Dr. Shaw and Holloway's proposition about the existence of engineers on this moon, 2, even if it became true, she would rather not see this mission go well so she "personally hired" the scientists of certain caliber. Despite all that, she notices one big obstacle, David, which was programed by Peter Wayland to do the things necessary for the positive turn out of this mission even if it means having a private chat with PW or turning off the camera at certain point of exploration and this created even bigger friction between Vickers and David.

Dr. Shaw: Much has been said about her role so I won't get into it much other than her putting a big stock on the belief. She is a believer.

Dr. Holloway: A young and anxious scientist who had a lot of optimism going into this. Perhaps too anxious to the point of carelessness. When he didn't get what he was hoping for, he got depressed and got drunk. Too much of anything can be bad and he paid the price.

That's what happens to those who have not yet decoded the movie. There are multiple themes going on at the same time and it takes multiple viewing to catch the combo to unlock it. If you haven't, you are just shooting yourself on the foot by continuing on with this tirade about it after only partially able to digest the contents.

Perhaps those with differing opinion about this movie have more patience and more creative perceptions than you do. That is unless you consider yourself the "know it all".

Kinda like 2012, pretty rediculous on many levels, but still enjoyable.I will def watch any Prometheus prequel/sequel. Wouldn`t mind a Predators sequel too.

You do know Josh also went on record many years ago for hating and being highly critical of Forest Gump?
