Updating and making official a story from last week, Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams will join forces again for a fourth Mission: Impossible. Putting aside for a moment the fact that none of the three previous missions proved to be impossible, there was real doubt that the series would continue at Paramount after boss Sumner Redstone discarded the star and his decade-plus relationship with the studio.

That's great news thoroughly enjoy the mission impossible films. Is it going to be in 3D?

Since this is Mission: Impossible 4, it will be presented in a brand new 4-D process developed by Tom Cruise himself. Not only will the picture be projected in 3-D, excerpts from the writings of L. Ron Hubbard will be subliminally flashed between frames in all three dimensions. The 4th "d" is for Dianetics, you see.

Actually I don't care. As long as it's a good film, 2D or 3D doesn't matter. Maybe I'd even prefer it in 2D though

I will prefer it in 2D also (my eyes don't agree with 3D ). I just said because it seems everyone is jumping on the 3D bandwagon and wouldn't be suprised if Mr Cruise decided also.

Ouch. I've seen the first 2. I've seen some great action sequences from the third, but haven't seen the entire film. Surprisingly, it scores the highest out of the three on Metacritic. I'm excited to check it out.

Can't say I'd mind a part 4. The first 2 were entertaining enough. Just not into the John Woo 'flying around on wires' thing.

JJ Abrams was recently quoted in an interview that the dailies he's seen are "amazing". I can imagine considering the photos of Tom Cruise doing stunts in Abu Dhabi.

Also, rumor is the trailer will be attached to Super 8 next month.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Brad Bird can do with real life after loving The Incredibles so much.

There's going to be a segment on Monday's Entertainment Tonight, it'll be either the trailer or some behind the scenes footage, or maybe both.

Happy to see that Simon Pegg seems to have a slightly larger role (and a role at all.)

Quick cut city. Despise the constant fade in and then fade right out. Can't see anything. God I hate modern marketing.

Today this, tomorrow we complain that they showed too much and gave away the story.

Well, the trailer looks really good and I hope it will be better than MI3. One thing I notice right away is that it's going back to more insane stunts and acrobatics like MI2. The end of the trailer shows him escalating outside that tower like the opening in MI2 where he did that rock climb. This facet is what MI franchise is about and what makes it exciting. MI2 had cool motorcycle and car chases/stunts whereas MI3 again trying to show more human had cruise running like forrest gump down that local river that seemed to go on forever.

MI3 tried to get mental and psychological trying to show his "feminine" side with the fiance expose angle crap and I hated it. That's not what MI is about.. and esp all those times when he "supposedly" died, then give the cheesy I love u rant spiel to his fiance then somehow manage to revive himself. Then the last half hour they had all those stupid confusing betrayals and sudden plot twists that made no sense at all that left you not knowing who or what is on who's side. I think brad bird will bring back the essence and simplicty of this francise in a entertaining way he did with the Incredibles.

^ I'd prefer less stunts and better story telling through a good script and restrained use of special effects. HAHAHA!!!! Yeah, that's gonna happen in this day and age in Hollywood.

Aren't spies supposed to be quiet and sneaky?

Stephen.

Chances are very good that I was drinking when I posted the above.

The third film was a thousand times better than anything remotely positive or even tolerable in the second film. It had combined the emotion and intelligent plot-driven aspect of the first film with the stylized, action-oriented aspect of the second. And it had an excellent villain to boot.

If the fourth film can expound upon that cohesion further, it will be a hell of a fun film.

Precisely. Ethan Hunt's character is somewhat of a 007 who is like a ninja that can get himself out of any situation. That's what cool about MI. I love that almost impossible stunt in MI2 where he got himself out of that cliff edge rock, thats what people look forward to things like that and the similar impossible stunts in 007 movies where it looks like only houdini can find a solution no one else can. Those and the gadgets are signature 007 essentials.

Then in the 3rd one they tried to domesticate him made out to be some lovey-dovey hubby gearing up for familydome when clearly that is not what ethan hunt or 007 is about. Totally F'd it up IMO. STick to the original blue print and not going for the oprah/Dr phil audience which JJ abrams did since he's got that Spielberg gene to try to please everyone who can buy a ticket.
