Indeed! There is a fine line between a legitimate complaint that a spoiler has been posted and spoilerphobic whinging about non spoilers. That's why I think the best way to deal with an arguably spoilerish post is to report it to the moderators and let them decide the issue. That way the thread is not spoiled by somebody posting a "Gotcha!" claiming that another poster had somehow posted a spoiler, which turns out not to be a spoiler for most of us.

By the way Hamlet's mother drank a cup of poisoned wine that Hamlet's stepfather, the king, had intended for Hamlet. Nyah, nyah, nyah!

The way the viewer is introduced to the unique structure of the movie is one of the reasons it makes a strong progression. While the first scene certainly makes you realize that not everything is being done in a normal way, it takes a few scenes to "get" exactly what IS going on.

Spoiling this is like telling the punchline of a joke before telling the joke. I'm just glad I went into the film knowing nothing about it.

Someone saying that Memento is played in reverse is as much of a spoiler as giving a basic plot synopsis.

The statute of limitations on spoiler alerts should expire a month after a movie/show airs to the public. It is ridiculous trying to control what information can be revealed on a 10+ year old movie (much less a cult classic like Memento).

Yes but 10 years is like only 6 months at the upper level so it's much more recent than you might think. (just trying to stay on topic!)

It's times like these that the scene of Terrance slapping Brooke Shields pops into my head.

Even though I was not particularly impressed with Inception, this is an awesome sentence!

Certainly one of things I expected in a thread about Inception is to find out the major plot device of Memento.

I fixed a few grammatical errors in my last response (I was in a hurry), but you make my point exactly.

In the end, I don't know why this is even an issue. We are in an Inception thread, so why post spoilers about Memento? Also, to anyone that's wants to post spoilers about anything, you should go ahead and do so; just please use the [/spoiler] tags and then everyone is happy. Is that too much to ask?

Every single review I read and saw of Memento, even back when it was released talked about the story being told in reverse. Anyone watching for the first time will figure out the device in minutes. Additionally, knowing about this device will not spoil any of the plot twists, nor the outcome. Knowng about it spoils nothing.

Calling this a spoiler is like sitting down to a steak dinner for the very first time, taking a bite, chewing and swallowing it, and then saying your dinner is ruined because now you know what the rest of it will taste like.

Here...if it makes you feel any better, how about this.

The "entire" movie is NOT told in reverse.

The Mona Lisa painting is a half-portrait and depicts a seated woman, Lisa del Giocondo, whose facial expression has been frequently described as enigmatic. The ambiguity of the subject's expression, the monumentality of the composition, and the subtle modeling of forms and atmospheric illusionism were novel qualities that have contributed to the continuing fascination and study of the work.

Sorry if I've spoiled the sense of amazement one's supposed to have when seeing the Mona Lisa for the first time.

LOL - Hey - does everyone know that the opening sequence to Lawrence of Arabia shows T.E. Lawrence's death?

Oh damn - I just spoiled the movie for anyone who has never seen this movie.

Ok, I'm not trying to make a point here (but I could).

Believe it or not, I have still not seen Lawrence of Arabia.

I'll concede that the spoiler statute of limitations has probably run out on this one though

You really owe it to yourself to see LOA as soon as possible. You have not seen one of THE greatest (by any yardstick you care to use) movies ever made.

Spoiler rules are posted at top of forum. There are no expiration dates. If you think a spoiler has been posted, please report it (as a person who has not yet seen the movie and intend to watch the movie, not just because plot details have been posted and you want to be a dink , .i.e use decent judgment). Most people do a good job, especially for current movies, but nobody is perfect. If you really don't want to be spoiled, don't read the thread, that's the only way to guarantee to not get spoiler'd. Some people have actually created a second thread for a movie so they can talk spoiler-tag-free. This is perfectly fine as a long as the thread title contains words that indicate spoilers may be inside the thread.

You're right guys, I have no excuse. Worse yet, I have it on Superbit DVD (remember those?) which I bought before Bluray or HD-DVD were even on the radar.

I'll make it a point for the wife and I to watch it this weekend though.
