Not without owning the previous two, I don't think. In any event, the only Bonds worth owning (to me) are the Connery's, minus Diamonds are Forever and the unnecessary and puzzling Thunderball remake Never Say Never Again. I've also got On Her Majesty's Secret Service because I had a monumental crush on Diana Rigg when I was younger (and so was she).

I used to think that; now I’m not so sure. I can’t recall which one I saw a month or so ago, but I had a difficult time finishing it because it look so dated and rather cheesy. Maybe it was nostalgia that had me clinging to them, because when they were released they were the coolest movies ever. I still think Connery is very suave in the role, but the fights and the overall acting aren’t that great. They were awesome in the day, but now they are looking weaker by the day. JMO.

The Ian Fleming novels are timeless.

As much as I admire Connery's great performances as Bond, I have never bought them on BD. In stark contrast, I did buy both of the BDs of the first two Bond films starring Daniel Craig and, as noted in earlier posts, have the Skyfall BD on order from Amazon. I passed on the Connery BDs because I thought the films were too long in the tooth for me to make that kind of investment. It's been easier and a bunch cheaper to just watch them again when they make one of their frequent appearances on an HD movie channel.

The difference of course is that Connerys Bonds have already been bought twice, were Craig's Bonds is new when they hit BD.

Good movies are as rare as an on topic discussion.

I don't disagree. I really enjoyed Connery in his time, but it's hard for me to watch those movies now. The question is: If you had a BD player back in the 60s and 70s would have bought them.

I absolutely would have bought Connery's Bond movies back in the day if BDs had been available then. Unfortunately, even DVDs didn't come along until years after the first few Bond films that starred Connery had been released. Thus, I made a management decision not to buy them on Disc.

I was lucky enough to score the Bond 50 box set back when Amazon had it for $99 on a lightning deal. All 22 films. That works out to just over $4.50 a movie. My kids and I are having a blast working our way thru the Bond films. I do find myself chucking at how dated some of it is. But Connery still rocks! We just finished You Only Live Twice.

Enjoyed this one tonite.

Javier Bardem, as usual, gives a fine performance.
DC and Ms. Dench do as well.

Lots of action.
Like every Bond movie, there are moments that require GIANT Suspensions of Disbelief.
Turn your brain off, grab a favorite beverage and snacks and just enjoy.

The PQ of the BD is excellent.
The SQ is very good, but not aggressive.

For some reason, I think The Dude would really like this movie (along with an ample supply of Caucasians).

I like how the new Bond movies make James Bond a more complex character compared to the old ones.

With Daniel Craig, James has scars from his past, and reasons for the way he is...

I feel like in the old ones James Bond was just a suave well spoken butt kicking spy with gadgets going up against random bad guys.

Trying to enjoy the simple things in life.

It does tie the outfit together but I still have reservations about his bonafides. First, I can't be sure that he has a genuine Caucasian in his hand. Second, and more importantly, where is the oriental rug? High marks, though, for the authenticity of the sweater and shower shoes. They are so authentic, I'm inclined to overlook everything else.smile.gif

Why people keep harping about DC for over 6 years now, is beyond any logic. He is here to stay not surprisingly and seems all the bitching and moaning added to nothing more in relevance as a single cow fart in open space.
Now as for the Bond women, they have been quiet a disappointment to me, since the Brosnan movies ended. Notable exception going to Caterina Murino in CR. Well it seems we will see more of Harris after all, but all others are gone as they normally are, so no reason to be too blue about them. wink.gif

Having said that, this film was a departure for a Bond movie and it was a welcome one in most cases. Yes we seen M in danger or former agents to turn "bad" , but this time they actually felt real. I can't say I was too happy with Bardem's approach here as he looked and acted more like the Joker from Batman, then the rather mature villains we've seen from the previous 2 films. However his motives were rather singular , as opposed to the typical worldwide domination, and his stop at nothing style to achieve that goal was rather insane, when you realize what he was after. Still this was among the better installments in the series, and it seems that the reboot is complete to get back into business.

Youre missing out if you havent seen "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". It is one of the better ones imo.
