We were fortunate to have an early release here in Eindhoven, Netherlands and last night I went to see "The Avengers" in IMAX 3D...
WOW!
Allot of fun and actually a really good film!
I was happy to finally (for me) see 3D used as a tool to immerse the viewer in the action and not to throw gimmicky special effects in your face.
The Hulk stole every scene he was in and if it wasn't for another horrendously bad cameo from Stan Lee ( why can't this guy be happy with the Billions he collects from being the creator of these Superhero's and leave the integrity of the film intact)
I personally would have been a bit happier!, but none the less a VERY entertaining film.

Believe it or not, Stan Lee really didn't make much off the Marvel licensed characters until relatively recently. He pretty much sold them to everyone which caused them to be tied up in legal wranglings for years. That's why we didn't see a Spider-Man movie sooner.

So if he wants to make a cameo appearance in every Marvel movie until he "kicks the bucket", more power to him!

I know he doesn't make "Billions", it was an exaggerated reference to my dislike for his cameos...and since I wasn't fully aware of how much control he had/has over the rights to the characters I slightly defer to your comment

If the reports of the quality of the 3D conversion of The Avengers are positive, I may see the 3D version later. I will first see it in 2D, however, because doing so will be both cheaper and more convenient that going all the way to the OKC metro's new IMAX palace to see it in 3D.

But here's the thing, there's really little point in going out of your way to see it IMAX since LIE-MAX is the only way it will be shown.

I'm conflicted since 3D/digital garners a $4 premium here. If it really makes a difference I might shell out for it. Otherwise analog/2D will be more than adequate. I'll wait for you guys to report on whether 3D really makes the movie before I decide.

3D costs an extra $5 to $6 in NYC. It's preposterous.

I cannot wait to see this film, but in 2D. I do not want to see it in fake 3D.

Projections for North America are illuminating a potential $150 million + opening! Personally I think it will be closer to an eye opening $200m. MovieTickets.com have said that pre-sales are out pacing IRON MAN, IRON MAN 2, CAPTAIN AMERICA and THOR... COMBINED. Yeah, it's that good folks.

I'll more than likely see this in 3D at an IMAX. Even a "faux" IMAX is better than a regular old multiplex theater. Plus the IMAX audio is always superior. Can't wait.

This is josh whedon and like everything new these days that just released gets all hyped up. I still vividly recall Serenity ah's and ooh's and being so let down later. I'm not going through that again and keeping it real.

As I mentioned before some on this forum won't like it.

My birthday is May 3rd. So when the girlfriend asked what I wanted for a present, I instinctively said "tickets to the Avengers movie the next day." Sure hope it's a good watch because my second wish was some good cigars and a bottle of my favorite whiskey.

"I am NOT suffering from insanity... I happen to be enjoying myself!"

Yes, he does. But it's all beat up, IIRC. I think it was leftover from Tonys dad. At this point Cap hasn't been revealed to Tony so he has no clue what it is.

I always thought that the story went that when Cap got frozen in an iceberg after blowing up the Red Skull's spaceship (plane, whatever), Tony's Dad/S.H.I.E.L.D. somehow gained possession of Cap's shield.

Am I correct?

One of the deleted scenes from Hulk has Banner walking across some frozen landscape and you can barely make out a frozen Cap in the ice below.

Joss Whedon's The Avengers continues to wreak havoc at the foreign box office, earning $36 million in its first two days and breaking records in a number of territories.

From Disney and Marvel Studios, Avengers scored the third best Thursday opening ever in the U.K. ($4.1 million) after posting the second highest opening day of all time in Australia on Wednesday.

Moreover, the superhero extravaganza is showing strength across the globe. In Argentina, the pic grossed $600,000 on Thursday, the third best opening of all time. And Avengers debuted to $2.3 million Korea, the third biggest opening of all time for non-local title.

Avengers is rolling out overseas a week ahead of its May 4 domestic bow. The tentpole is expected to kick-off summer in spectacular fashion with a $150 million-plus opening in North America.

TheHollywoodReporter

So Franin, if this had the 2nd biggest all time opening in Australia, what film had the biggest? Crocodile Dundee?
