McTiernan's final appeal was shot down by the Supreme Court. There's no one left for him to appeal to. He's going to prison, and when he gets out, it's extremely doubtful that any studio would hire him again, given that what got him in trouble was hiring a PI to illegally wiretap a producer he had a dispute with. People hold grudges in Hollywood.

That is some insane $hit....
Did the PI take it upon himself to wiretap or did McTiernan tell him to?

I believe that's in some dispute. (All McTiernan was actually convicted of was lying to the FBI about his relationship with Pellicano.) I haven't really followed the case that closely, but this recent Hollywood Reporter article has a basic overview:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/die-hard-director-john-mctiernan-412690

Regardless of what prosecutors could actually prove in court, no one in Hollywood will ever trust McTiernan again.

Assuming he didn't have a criminal record, I am surprised he would be given a prison sentence for simple perjury.

McTiernan's sordid story is just one more example showing that it's never about the crime, it's the coverup.

Went to see this tonight. I didn't hate it as much as a lot of folks seem to. I will say it didn't "feel" like a Die Hard movie. As a stand alone action movie it was decent. They could have given it any generic action name, e.g. Last Stand In Moscow, and it would have fit better than using the Die Hard banner. But you know it will look and sound amazing on BD, and I'll end up buying it.

Considering that he was initially sentenced to only four months, appealed the verdict, lost the appeal, and then the original judge increased the sentence to a year, it sounds like she was trying to make an example out of him.

Also, I don't think the charge was so much perjury as impeding a criminal investigation or something along those lines.

OK, still...it seems a little harsh.

Now that you mention it, it's been quite some time since we've heard from sb1. Hope he's ok.

Indeed! Hopefully they're both just taking some time off from AVS...

This is the weakest entry in the series yet. Nor does it seem like a Die Hard film, it's more of a generic action film, but one with a very weak plot.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Did you know that all you have to do to the Chernobyl power plant to make it safe is spend 30 seconds spraying an aerosol mist?

I'm not buying and will probably never watch it again. They have announced DH6, but the series is dying IMHO.
