I just watched Sphere on tv!

What a seriously crappy ending! They just combined their "powers" and forgot about everything? LOL What a shortcut!

And then there's the new edition of Planet of the apes! What the hell happened there?

I edited the thread title to contain the spoiler warning. You can hide spoilers with the spoiler tag by starting your spoiler with [*spoiler*]here's the spoiler stuff[*/*spoiler*]. Just remove the "*" symbol to get it to work. Your spoiler will then look like this:

P.S. You don't have to include the spoiler tag. It's just an option.

I think the novel ended exactly the same, IIRC...

Just a very dull story. If the characters were going to be unleashing their id, Chrichton certainly could have come up with much more imaginitive stuff than that...

In the same vein,

IT

the TV mini series based on the Stephen King book. For me, the ending completely undermined what had been, up until then, for me, a fairly scary movie. I can't remember another instance where an ending has so nullified a movie.

I dislike the lame ending of Jurassic Park III.

lotsa weak endings out there. a few to come to mind are "9th Gate" and recently "Vertical Limit". I expected more from Polanski after such a suspenseful plot, i can't even spoil the ending because there wasn't one, it just stopped. and VL just stopped when they ran out of the need for cheesy special effects and bad dialog. very glad i rented that one.

one a side note, i thought something awful needed to happen to the Duke after he walked out of the Moulin Rouge at the end. i mean, Satine died, shouldn't he get run over in the parking lot or something? even my wife thought that..

I have found the ending of sphere pretty indicative of the ending of many of Crichton's books.

Congo - volcano explodes bury's all evidence.
JP - nuke the island.
Andromeda strain - virus mutates into something harmless.

I have always said that Crichton seems to take a copout ending in a lot of his books. I have not read all of his works, but of the ones I have read this seems to be a common element. I have to agree though that Sphere had by far the worst ending of the lot, with Congo pulling a close second.

The Abyss.

Could have been so much more simply with a different ending.

I agree, the ending of IT was awful. I had read the book twice and was very curious as to how they would pull off what King had written at the end of the Novel (which was very excellent). I knew it would be tough to translate his words to the screen... but a big dumb monster? Puhlease

Good..... Bad..... I'm the guy with the gun.

JOHN Q!!!

If you didn't already know, I really HATED John Q, though the now Oscar winning actor Denzel was in it. The plot, script, and acting was just plain horrible. The movie was predictiable and was pure garbage propoganda. Now to the point. In the end:

John is about to blow his brains out but as he pulls the trigger the chamber is empty. *CLICK* I went NOOOO!! After that the hospital calls and says they have a donor for the little kid. I ask my friend, "Are you kidding me?" What BS, they let him go and his child was saved by a stupid woman who died in an accident. WORST MOVIE EVER! :D
.

BTW, you probably shouldn't read the spoiler if you liked the movie. ;)

Sphere did end just like in the book, although to be fair, the book was exponentially better than the movie.

As far as the Planet of the Apes ending...is it possible they had a good ending and then scrapped it in favor of the "we need a 'twist' ending like the first movie and we have to leave the door open for a sequel anyways" ending.

Worst ending ever? How about Alien: Resurrection (not the ending, the ending of a film series):D

Big Trouble in Little China ! ! ! (no way you don't boink Kim Cattrall before you take off Kurt!!)

Where are Wayne & Garth when you need them...we could do the "Mega-Happy" ending!!!

I'll stop ripping my BDs when I can put them in and watch the movie without trailers, warnings, cutesy menus...

I actually get the impression that the whole movie was written around the ending, which is, of course, a bad way to write.

SPHERE is easily one of the worst movies ever made. The ending is the icing on a horrid cake.

House On Haunted Hill (2000) had potential, but the 'monster' that the spirits became near the end really ruined it for me. Too bad; I was really into the spastic ghost-doctors in the beginning. Another CGI disaster.

I thought the ending to The Pledge was just awful. A terrible ending to a really slow and drawn out film.

For some reason this ending didn't bother me when I saw the film in the theater, but after watching it at home I thought it was terrible.

The entire Russian thing was hokey, I found most of the story almost believable, but he killed a Russian while on a bender in Vegas and needed to pay off a million bucks and local LA politicians knew all about it ?? Come on. He should have owed a local warlord with a big crew or something and they could blast him at the end instead.

SuttonHT

To experience it this fully... is to have spent a lot of money !!!

Exorcist III is a pretty good movie with an ending that was tacked on by the studio mensa's because they couldn't stand the thought of a movie with minimal special effects.

Hollowman was not a very good movie at all, but the ending was ridiculous. Kevin Bacon's character was severely burned, brained with a crowbar, electrocuted, and blown-up ("he blowed-up real good!") but still came after the heroine like some kind of Jason want-to-be. Does being invisible equate to being invincible?

I second that. The ending of the movie was pretty dumb. That Alien/Human hybrid business was laughable.
