It's true, even though the trailer does contain shots that don't look hand held, I read that every one of them was cut out of the film. There is a 'making of' documentary that shows how he did hand-held arial shots of Superman flying. Explains why he was chosen to direct the film.

Maybe Henry Cavill will prove me wrong. Look at all the different actors who played Batman. smile.gif With Batman it was the story and directing that sold it. And the solid acting by the villans and leads. I'm referring to the Christopher Nolan Batman movies of course.

Same thing happened with the Bond films IMHO. Daniel Craig I thought before I saw Casino Royale looked very UN-Bond. More a baddie. Than "Bond". But again, he made the last few bonds work. Aided by good direction and writing. I just enjoyed the new approach taken to the recent Bond flicks. Putting aside the fact that Craig doesn't look like "Bond".

As far as Superman goes the last Superman looked the part as well. Brandon Routh. I guess he didn't want the role again fearing another flop. I think there's a "Superman look" that IMHO only Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh had. Henry for me, as I said, just looks like some muscular dude in a Superman suit. Remember Nick Cage was offered the role in years past (Superman Lives)? LOL!! Talking about miscasting... I would have seen it for a few laughs. smile.gif

Brandon Routh absolutely wanted the part, but was never even considered.

I forgot about the Nicolas Cage thing. Man, I still don't know where that one came from. That would have be a complete and absolute mess. As far as Cavill's "look" is concerned, while my initial thought long ago was he didn't look much like Superman, I'm holding out judgment mainly for the reasons you stated. I want to see how it all plays out and frankly, I choose to expect him to do well (along with the movie). Can't wait!

Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report) did a funny skit on the upcoming Man of Steel last night. But then came the Carl Jr. (Hardee's) Super Bacon Cheeseburger ad which just got a groan from me. God! - the movie's not even out yet and the commercial tie-ins have started. It really cheapens the feel of this whole project.

What is superman suposed to "look" like exactly? He's a comic book character. Not everyone who play's him must look like Christopher Reeve(as long as its not a balding nick cage). I think Henry will do just fine and the movie should kick ass.

He should look like the classic Curt Swan depiction, considered by many the definitive Superman. But in the end, any fairly tall, muscular, dark haired white guy could be adapted, I suppose- thus we get Henry Cavill.

...Besides, Man Of Steel is a reboot, that would have been weird to have the same actor as the last one... Kind of like having George Clooney as Batman in Batman Begins wink.gif ...or keeping Maguire for The Amazing Spider-Man...

If Superman Returns had been a better movie and more successful, the franchise wouldn't have needed a reboot. I believe, as is the standard practice with these superhero franchises, Brandon Routh signed on for at least three movies, but the studio let him go after the first.

2 variations of the Tim Burton/Nic Cage Superman look...

1 - not all that disimilar to MoS's costume:

Then, of course, there was this understated number:

Cannot see why anyone is complaining over Cavill.

No ish't!

Saw the interviews and accompanying clips on Leno and Fallon last night. Kind of liking what I'm seeing. Kind of thinking this thing is going to surprisingly blow folks away.

The bottom pic is a known fake. Someone photoshopped Cage's head onto an action figure body. The top two pictures looked 'shopped as well.

I don't have the link at the moment, but there's a video clip showing the costume designers testing the actual suit, which was even more ridiculous than these and lit up like a Christmas tree.

Wait, here, I found it:

I saw him on Leno last night, very nice young chap. The one thing that stuck out was the part where he told Leno how he finally got the call from Zack that he got the part. Does anyone know who were the contenders? I caught half of the interview with Carson Daly the other day but he didn't bring it up. I'm really curious the others Zack had in mind so please if you know let us know.

But imagine that though, getting that call from Zack. Think of the times you got that call from your job interview and they offered you the job and how crazy delirious happy your were...well take that and multiply it by 1000 that's prob how Cavill felt when he got that call. I mean not only will you have job security as an young up and coming actor but you got one of the biggest payday powerball lottery of your life.

I'm pretty sure he negotiated for some base salary + percentage of the revenues from the film worldwide and toys which means prob around 50-60 mil per picture and that includes for sure MOS and at least 2 sequels. So for just being Superman in the end around 200 mil. Btw it's kinda interesting that he's only appearing on Leno. I did a guide searched for all the other late shows for the next 2 weeks and he's NOT making any with Letterman, etc. which is odd I would assumed he would be doing all of them.

Fatboy Roberts - Geeks Remixed: Last Sons

Remixed and Re-Edited by Fatboy Roberts. Contains samples from "The Planet Krypton" and "Prelude and Main Titles (Alternate)" from "Superman: The Movie" by John Williams, and "Man of Steel" by Hans Zimmer.

Used it on a college radio show I was a guest on last night - quite catchy.

Got my tickets for Thursday night's 10:30pm show in IMAX. I'm a little giddy to say the least. I think the last time I felt like this was when LOTR ROTK came out.

Anyone else watching it opening night?

I'll probably end up waiting for the bluray for Man Of Steel. smile.gif Last time I saw a movie on opening night was for the LotR movies. Saw them at the midnight showing even. What was I thinking? Loved the movies though. Not going to do that for MOS. Will just buy the bluray just to see the movie. Hope it's not a flop.

I would be interested.

The latest batch of trailers have impressed me.
IF the majority of guys around here give it a "thumbs up," I will go see it in a theater (something I don't ordinarily do).

Tell me is this crazy, is anyone else feel the same way about this? I have date with a free ticket to one them nice plush Cinepolis theater's where you sit a big lazy boys and have food served on opening day but I'm thinking I'm going say no thank you to this offer. I did see Prometheus in the theater on opening day and it was great but I didn't get to enjoy it when it came out on dvd like I usually do. I miss that experience on my own.

Ok, while it's great to see it in the theater yes I know but I also been so used to patiently waiting for big movies to arrive in my mailbox from NF and watching it in my bedroom for the 1st time it's so gratifying in that respect. It's just you totally focused on the TV and no one else or nothing to distract or bother my amazing experience.

And with MOS, I know 100%, without a doubt this is not going to be some over rated or big letdown like previous summer BB like Robin Hood, Dark of the moon, or Ghost protocol. This is going to be one hell of an experience in the theater or in my home either way I just don't know right now which will be best. With Fast 6 I also had a free ticket with some relatives visiting out of the country but that was not a big deal I didn't care one way or the other. MOS could be the film of the decade so I want do do this proper.
