Can't really vouch for the surround sound as this is an older Italian movie, but there's a great skylight glass-breaking scene in Suspiria, and a lot of rain at the beginning.

I just happened to watch American Beauty again last night and the surrounds were quite active in the rainy scene towards the end.

Kurosawa's Seven Samurai has the greatest rainy scene ever filmed IMHO, but it's from 1953 and in Mono.

The Borrowers animated film, also called Arrietty, had a ton of quiet scenes in it with suddle wind/nature/rain effects in surround sound that I found particularly well played. The ephesis on the borrowers being so small had a big impact on the sounds all around. Pretty amazing film

Agree. In particular the night of her first borrowing when the kitchen opens up.
