I have DirecTV too, but there isn't any way (at this moment) I would throw 15 bucks towards this movie....

I have charter, and though online it claims to have been available on charter on demand since april 27th, it isn't. I have checked every day and it isn't available on the IFC in theaters on demand channel. You also can't download it anywhere on the net, there are no torrents anywhere for this film, not that I would anyhow, but it is very frustrating, this movie has been released on literally 1 screen in the entire country, and made 7000 dollars the first weekend, a joke with this caliber of movie.

I loved this movie. I watched the Blu Ray tonight. The image is terrific and soundtrack of americana music is perfect for this film. The pace and mood set during the daytime scenes really set this film apart in a positive way for your typical vampire film.

I'm enjoying the heck out of this movie..I had to turn it off as it was late and I was tired but I'll start at Chapter 11 and finish it tonight. It drew me in and kept me there and it's been a while since a zombie/vamp/horror movie has done that!! .

I guess I need to watch this one again, it just didn't do anything for me on first viewing. I've enjoyed AMC's "The Walking Dead" much more than this.

They say The Walking Dead is not going to spend hardly any time in the city this coming season, its going to be basically out in the woods. I really do NOT like that, i love when they are in the city, i bet they are doing this since its way cheaper to run around the woods than to do a city.

I just ordered the BD, so we'll see. The only reason I watch The Walking Dead is because it's about zombies - which means I have to watch it - even though it's pretty tame and almost boring for me.

Gosh golly I hope I like this one. Better keep my expectations in check.

In other news: Danielle Harris (Stake Land, Halloween 4 & 5, Hatchet 2, etc) will be in my town this month @ Monstermania. Can't wait!

I enjoyed the first few episodes but started sliding down hill after that and felt more like I was watching a soap than apocalyptic zombie fare.

I watched Stake Land last night. Hmmmm... Not bad movie but I wasn't impressed with anything and I don't need to see it again. The production was very good and it had some decent violence and gore that you'd expect in this type of movie. The plot had potential and they did a decent job for most of the movie even though I thought it somewhat plodded along. But they had to pull out the tried and true Hollywood plot devices here and there and mostly to wrap things up with Although with that being said, they didn't pull all the punches. The soundtrack is what bothered me the most. I know what they were going for with the piano music, but I didn't need my nose rubbed in it. Besides the production, another good attribute of the movie for me was the social commentary and who were portrayed as the "bad guys".

I'd say it's worth a watch - I don't regret watching it and production of the movie was good. With a movie of this type and genre, writers et. al. need to on their "A game" because we've seen it all before. This movie brings nothing new to the table in that regard.

Part Zombieland, mostly The Road.
Worth a look for any fan of apocalypses.

What is most interesting is the debut of the director: Jim Mickle.
I was constantly impressed by the atmostphere of the film.
Taking advantage of the widescreen (sadly, it is becoming a lost art), he nails the cinematography to the wall.

The script has a few holes big enough to drive a Bentley thru.
But I found this movie to be entertaining for an evening.

BTW, supposedly, the baddies are vampires.
However, they remind me more of zombie/cannibals.
But, what the heck?

The BD, while not perfect, is pretty good nonetheless.

Gave this a spin last night and loved it! It was exactly what I expected except for two parts where it goes "Hollywood".

Larry called out one of them. No need to have the kid find a girl and ride off into the sunset. It didn't ruin the movie but I'd love to see how it would turn out if they went a different route. #2 is having the vamped up bad guy talk. WHY did they turn him into Voldemort? He would have been 100x scarier in silence. This came off as super cheesy to me.

Change those two things up and it would have been perfect for me.

I caught a second viewing of Stake Land in OAR on Syfy (gasp!) this weekend are boy are you right. This is a downright beautiful looking film. Even at its ugliest it was a visual treat that I couldn't take my eyes off of and I almost never watch movies with commercials. A shame it wasn't perfect but I won't complain. Now to see what Mickle has coming up.
