In theaters and on demand 4/27

They had me at Danielle Harris.

In Jim Mickle's new film, Stake Land, a young boy is about to learn how cruel the world can become. Martin was a normal teenager before the country collapsed in an empty pit of disaster, and a vampire epidemic swept across the nation's abandoned towns and cities. It's up to Mister, a death dealing, rogue vampire hunter, to get Martin to safety. Armed with a trunk full of wooden stakes and a desperate will to stay alive, Mister and Martin make their way through locked down towns, recruiting fellow travelers along the way. A devout nun (Kelly McGillis as "Sister") joins the small team of survivors. She faces a crisis of faith during the vampire bloodshed, ultimately taking up arms to do battle with her newly formed family unit.

As with his hit, Mulberry Street, Jim Mickle creates a dark and terrifying world, although this time it is fully stocked with the most evil vampires in recent film history. Stake Land is a gritty, post-apocalyptic road movie with teeth!

The above post is 100% medically accurate

Too bad it's playing virtually nowhere. It looks a lot, LOT better than that upcoming Priest movie that is getting a wide release.
Do you know if there is any chance it might go at least a little wider in a few weeks?

Vampire's get no respect in the theaters unless they suck (or rather don't suck but suck because they don't suck but do sparkle).

EDIT: although actually you say 4/27 release? Isn't that a Wednesday? I only see it playing at a single theater in NYC starting tonight 4/22 and nowhere else. Maybe a few more theaters will pick it up starting 4/29 then?

This looks like it could be a winner. Vamp movies need to be hard core like this or 30 Days of Night or they are character stories like Interview With A Vampire and Let The Right One In. I'll be renting as soon as it hits ondemand.

Thanks for the dedicated thread on this title. I had not heard of it, but love what I see in the trailer. I ran across a review by Richard Roeper (on hulu) and he loved it. I usually agree with his reviews, so I am really looking forward to see this. I don't know if it has a chance to be AT&T on demand (under "in theaters"), but I'd love to see it below it hits video.

I hope this is good. Have not seen a good vampire flick in a while (if you don't count Twilight...) Daughters of Darkness bluray showed up in my queue. Unintentionally funny movie but not much on the action side.

Just finished watching this and didn't care for it much. I wont give too much away but my main gripe was the story just didn't go anywhere. It was like they did a fantastic job with capturing a depressing post apocalyptic vamp world but didn't really know what story to drop in it. Character development was fairly shallow as well. There was also s bit of infant and young child violence that I could have done without.

It had some good scenes and again the post apocalyptic environment was captured well but otherwise I didn't feel it was worth much. YMMV

Too bad. I'll still check it out but sounds like it will join the long list of movies made around a basic idea - that was never fleshed out. "Hey, wouldn't it be great to make a post apocolytic movie with vampires?" - and that's as far as the creative juices got.

Check out 'The Walking Dead' on AMC. Of course, being a television series, they have a lot more time to "flesh" things out.

Edit: Actually, TWD is about zombies. Easy to get those two groups of undead folks confused. On another note, I tried to delete the post and the AVS software doesn't seem to allow it anymore.

^^^ "Edit" doesn't have delete option? Once you click the "delete" button you also have to click the "delete post" option that appears bottom left.

Zombies, vampires, not much difference. Vampires usually dress better.

Yeah, I've tried. It just doesn't work, for some reason. Oh well. "Odd things" have happened to my account before.

Actually, I'm surprised someone hasn't come up with a debonair, sexy zombie-hero yet. I can see it now: Good looking guy croaks, then comes right back as good-looking-but-paler zombie and finds his super-hot girlfriend is still pining for him. Over the course of the movie he gradually starts to decompose. A tooth here, a finger there, etc. But she still loves him! Heartbreak! Pathos! Tears! Dripping guts! Box office gold, I tells ya'!

Hey I got a great horror idea... We get all the distributors of films and have them meet us at the bottom of shark infested waters...Or here's another idea..., how about we introduce the studio exec's to our nagging mother who sits in a chair upstairs overlooking a run down hotel...

Pirating is not the problem, stupidity is! Start releasing films to fans (pay attention) WHENEVER & HOWEVER they want to see it, for a fair price that still makes the artist, the writer, the studio, and the crew million's of dollars.

that sounds a little bit like The Fly (although perhaps he wasn't debonair to begin with....)

I could go for those sirloins tonight!

Whoever brought up pirating....I still haven't been able to see this. I'm chomping at the bit to shell out up to $15 to see it on demand. But I can't. Because it's not on DirecTV.

What's amusing is someone could go download it for free right this very moment and probably even in HD. Funny how that all works out.
