This looks fun.
Real chemistry between Cheadle and Gleeson.

Nearly full marks from Ebert:
http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/...5/1001/reviews

The framing and cinematography here are unobtrusive but efficient. The drama builds remorselessly. Much is at stake. I am exhausted by shootouts in which countless rounds are exchanged in displays of special effects. But a scene like this [one he references earlier], which depends on topography, characters and logistics, can be a gift of the cinema. "The Guard" is a pleasure. I can't tell if it's really (bleeping) dumb or really (bleeping) smart, but it's pretty (bleeping) good.

This is a fine movie.
Much British black humor, but more of a crime drama than I thought it would be.

Fine acting and good writing makes this one a winner IMO.

And the above quote from Ebert is right on the money.

After a fine dinner with wine (and a few shots of Scotch), I tried to watch this one. Unfortunately, digestion and alchohol make me sleepy. When I woke up the movie was over. I meant to give it another look, but eventually sent it back untouched (again). A sad, but true story.

I don't lurk as much as I used to and I NEVER listen. Comes from being old and cynical.

Basic rule of thumb: never mix the rye with the grape...use the hops instead.

You should make an effort to watch it without an alcoholic haze. It is a very fine movie. After reading Ebert's review I was looking forward to seeing it, and I'm glad I remembered to look for when it came out on BD.

The guard is such a underrated movie. I did not know what it was going in, but it was done so well.
