I have been searching for years for this.

When I was younger, say in 1996, I watched a movie on TV about a NAZI doctor who won an Iron Cross, when the war ended he fled to the US where is lived as a jew? he had a son who in his uni/college studies discovers his father this a Nazi.

I'd really like to see it again.

I dont suppose anyone here would know the name?

Many thanks.

The 1998 adaptation of Stephen King's Apt Pupil comes to mind, but since they weren't father and son (a local teenage boy discovers that an old man in his town was once a sadistic Nazi officer), I could be wrong.

When that movie was released I was hoping it would be as good as the other two stories from Different Seasons that were made into movies. It was a good read but a lousy movie. I didn't like how they changed the character of the kid. In the book he was total psycho and not some dumb confused kid.

I'm sure this isn't the movie you're remembering, but Orson Welles directed a movie called The Stranger in 1946 about a Nazi fugitive who creates a new identity for himself in the US and is pursued by a war crimes detective.

This may be a long shot, but there's a movie from 1988 called "Land der Vater, Land der Sohne" (Land of the Father, Land of the Son) that might be what you're looking for.

I think I've seen it (not sure), but it took me awhile to find the name. There's no plot on IMDB, but found one here: http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/1308...Sohne/overview

Here is the plot, but I can't really find a trailer or any other info about it.
Quote:
Director Nico Hoffmann combines black and white with color photography in this plodding drama starring Karl-Heinz Liebezeit in a dual role. When a Nazi war veteran commits suicide, his son investigates his father's wartime activities. The son discovers his father ran a slave labor camp in Poland during the war. The man killed himself in 1972 after learning his questionable war activities would be published in a German newspaper

mproper - that might be it.....no just read about it, probably not....I remember there was a car that exploded at the end, if I recall right the nazi guy was in it.....this is so frustrating, it was probably a rubbish movie, not sure why it has stuck in my mind

FYI - its called Twist of Fate based on the book Pursuit. Its a two part telemovie

Made in 1989 and directed by Ian Sharp

Stars Ben Cross, Veronica Hamel, John Glover and Sarah Jessica Parker

Here is a synopsis from tcm:

"A two-part miniseries about an S.S. engineer who, in the waning days of the Third Reich, undergoes plastic surgery and becomes a concentration-camp prisoner to avoid prosecution as a war criminal. In an ironic twist of fate, he is shipped to the wrong camp and forced to live with those he has victimized, where he learns to respect them. After the war, he becomes involved in the founding of Israel, marries and fathers a son, who eventually stumbles across his identity 20 years later."
