To celebrate July 4th we just watched up-scaled Independence Day. Even with all of its improbabilities I still love this movie. Watched it at the theater when it was released and about six times on DVD. It is one of those movies I never get tired of seeing.

Happy Independence Day!

Saving the world with a Powerbook...... those were the days.....

An iPhone could handle that job easily in 2011

(whatever happened to Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum btw!)

Hell, even iPhone is a little plebeian these days. In 2011, the Cloud would be the technological facilitator.

I need your sweet love, Rosetta Stone girl!

Today, Anonymous would hack the aliens and give us schematics for super weapons. Of course, that's assuming Anonymous doesn't side with the aliens.

Verum postulo res.

Day off. I actually was going to watch "Independence Day" right out of the chute until my daughter came in the room and wanted to choose. Guess what we watched? "A Christmas Carol." Gotta love kids.

Happy Independence Day!

It's even more improbable on Blu-ray.

Any movie that involves any type of hacking is usually so far fetched it's not funny. As someone that works in the IT industry, I'm always amazed at the amount of money studios will spend on a movie and not hire a decent advisor for such things.

I did get tickled during The Matrix when Neo actually did take advantage of a one time Unix vulnerability though. They must have had a geek on set somewhere.

Budget Home Theater:
Denon AVR-1911 Receiver, Bic V-1220 Subwoofer, Micca MB42/C Speakers, Epson 8350 Projector, Home-made ~90" 16:9 Screen, Berkline 13175

Me too, but understand the reality of computer programming is damn boring. It wouldn't be as excited to watch a decompiler run, then someone open up Visual Studio, then set some breakpoints, etc. Yeah, that would make for a great scene.

Borrrrr-ing.

I imagine it's much the same way for any industry (military personnel, rocket scientists, doctors, crime scene investigators, etc).

However, it would be nice if they just didn't blatantly make it completely wrong, like how CSI or Law and Order or some show like that had a scene where they were trying to stop a hacking attempt and two people jumped on the same keyboard and started typing ferociously (4 hands on the same keyboard typing at the same time....)

I watch it as well, but not every 4th. It's a guilty pleasure. The Macbook always kills me.

Independence Day is simply a sci-fi guilty pleasure for a lot of people (like Stargate).

I always enjoy it for what it is.
Nothing deep, nothing fancy.
Turn the audio up, turn your brain off, and crack a cold one.

It beats the hell out of the anything similiar ever done from network TV.
Falling Skies....blah.

A.P.S. deserve our protection....join the cause today!

B movie on an A movie budget. That's where Hollywood's priorities are.
