The reboot of the franchise has a trailer:

I'm surprised that they are retelling his origins so soon after the first set of movies. I do like the Mirror's Edge perspective on his initial web crawling and swinging though. It's due out the summer of 2012.

If it wasn't a Spider-man reboot I'd be interested.

I still think it was a sequence created deliberately for the trailer, especially seeing the similarities above (almost feels like an homage). Kinda like the sequence from Raimi's Spider-man 1 that had Spidey catching a helicopter full of bank robbers in a giant web spun between the twin towers.

I seriously hope this sequence isn't in the movie. It looks pretty lame as is. Hopefully if it is in the final movie, it looks a lot better than it does now.

I LOVE MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, enjoy him while you can because it appears to be the last reboot for Peter Parker once this new series of Amazing Spiderman films come to an end. Marvel has killed off Peter Parker in the comics, replacing him with a gay Hispanic/Black kid:

Quote:

He started life as a white science geek living with his uncle.

But now to reflect the racial changes in America Spider Man has been given a makeover - as a half black half Latino teen.

Miles Morales has replaced Peter Parker as the face behind the famous webbed mask, Marvel Comics has revealed.

In the latest edition of the Ultimate Fallout series he pulls back the disguise and shows his face for the first time.

Fans will have to wait until the official Spider Man relaunch next month to find out how he came to be the superhero.

But another surprise could be in the pipeline after his creators said that in the future they would not rule out making him gay.

Peter Parker first appeared as the superhero in 1962 - having been bitten by a radioactive spider he found he developed the strength and agility of an arachnid.

He was killed off by the Green Goblin in June in a controversial move by Marvel which left fans aghast.

Morales was inspired to do good after learning of the death and in Ultimate Fallout issue four he dons the mask and gets into his first fight.

Marvel has revealed that he does have a connection to Parker in terms of how he got his powers but he will have different abilities beyond ‘Spider Sense’ and the ability to shoot webs out of his hands.

Parker's Aunt May and Gwen Stacy will also be in the plot to help him on his way to being a superhero.

'The theme is the same: With great power comes great responsibility,' Spider Man writer Brian Michael Bendis told USA Today.

'He's going to learn that. Then he has to figure out what that means.

'He's younger than Peter Parker, he's coming from a completely different background, a completely different world view.

'It's Peter Parker's death that inspires this kid to step up.'

Marvel's editor in chief Axel Alonso denied that having a black Spider Man was a publicity stunt.

What you have is a Spider-Man for the 21st century who's reflective of our culture and diversity.

'As someone who grew up on a steady diet of 'Luke Cage, Hero For Hire' and 'Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu,' I am personally invested.

'This was a conscious decision. Here at Marvel, we pride ourselves on reflecting the real world in all its diversity.

'We think that readers will fall in love with Miles Morales the same way they fell in love with Peter Parker.'

Italian artist Sara Pichelli, who designed Spider-Man's new look, added: 'Maybe sooner or later a black or gay - or both - hero will be considered something absolutely normal.’

In slightly less obnoxious related news, Rhys Ifans is playing the villain in this film -- Dr. Connors aka Lizard.

I don't even read comic books, yet even I know that Marvel has multiple ongoing continuities for most of its superheroes. Parker has only been replaced in the "Ultimate Spider-Man" book, not the regular Spider-Man continuity.

I watched the trailer and it looks terrible especially compared to SR's Spiderman trilogy. Why would they reboot so quickly? They were good movies.

Because the third one sucked pretty badly, and Sony's hold on the rights to the franchise was expiring.

Is this going to be part of the 'Marvel Universe' they've set up with the latest Hulk film, Iron-man, Cap America, and Thor??

Too many systems and games....not enough time or money!

This is an example of why the decision to have that sequence at the end of the trailer was a BAD idea. The reality is the majority of the stunts for this film were done practically. Here's an example:

Additionally, all signs point to the CGI sequence at the end of the trailer being made specifically for the trailer (and being an homage to Mirror's Edge).

Not likely, those movies are all produced by Marvel Studios, Sony still owns the film rights to Spiderman. That said, I'd love it if they worked out some kind of deal to at least hint that they co-exist, but the chances of that happening are slim to none.

As Rocky says, the film rights to Spider-Man are held by Sony. The main reason we're getting this reboot so soon is that Sony needed to crank out another movie within a certain window in order to maintain the license.

Likewise, the X-Men movie rights are held by Fox. You won't see any of these characters crossing over with the movies produced by Marvel Studios itself.

With Marvel now comfy resting in some Disney $$, perhaps those rights could end up "back home" one day?

Disagree. The 3rd was clearly the worst but not terrible. Sony holding the rights must be the real answer.

Agreed. The third was pretty entertaining. I've only seen it once in theaters though, I just remembered it was quite fun.

Honestly, I don't care much about the Spiderman movies after I started watching them again. I didn't like the fact that there's just so much Mary Jane drama throughout them, especially in Spiderman II. The reason being is Raimi likely wanted to keep these movies mainstream, and just attract as much of an audience as possible. Didn't like the abundance of CGI, either.

Give me Darkman any day over the Spidermans. Now THAT'S a Raimi movie. Made for Raimi fans. And I don't have to sit around and watch the female character go through drama episodes for much of the movie, either.

Of course, it should be noted that Darkman is painfully, painfully, painfully stupid from the first frame to the last.

OUCH!!!

I hope The Amazing Spiderman will be a great movie and a box office success. I'm easy to please (just ask my wife ) but don't want to just totally check my brain at the door. Is it too much to ask for something more, something special, something that hasn't been done before? O.K. Even if it's been done already, maybe new threads of the story line and a fresh new approach?

Will see it but..

Dang, I was holding out, like many fans of the original series, for an appearance of The Lizard. Unfortunately this one looks so CGI. I guess I imagined them coming up with a really cool looking practical effect. But then again, even Sam Raimi' Lizard would probably have been CGIish too....
