There are more dinosaur tales to be told and Steven Spielberg is doing just that with "Jurassic Park 4." The Hollywood producer and director made his Comic-Con debut in San Diego Friday bringing news of another installment of his prehistoric-meets-modern times film series. Spielberg said the film would likely arrive in the next two to three years, but offered few other details except to say the project is moving toward production. "Jurassic Park 4" will mark the first film in the "Jurassic" series since 2001.

He really didn't want the franchise to fall into the "Jaws syndrome", but "writing enough zeros on a check", tends to change people's minds.

This has been floating around for awhile, so it's good to have some finality from the big man himself. Personally, I enjoyed the first two and am eager to see what Spielberg's return to the franchise will bring.

I thought everyone did.

Certainly, the CG dinos in the 3 movies were ground-breaking, in terms of realism.
Even today's latest documentaries don't reach that high.

FWIW, my score:
JP1 = 4/5
JP2 = 3/5
JP3 = 3.5/5

Actually, this time around SS is taking a page from the latest "teachings" of Christian "paleotologists" who are convinced humans and dinos co-existed.....like, uh, recently.

The plot will show the martyrdom of early Christians being fed to dinos in the Colosseum and the subsequent extinction of the beasts, after a proper smiting by The Big Man....

WTF How can these *cough* projects get approved, get funded? That's just sad and pathetic.

I have no doubt the dinoaurs will look cool in JP4, I just hope the plot will be just as cool I wouldn't mind to see Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neil back actually. Children, not really.. Wait...Or the plot will evolve around the grown-up kids from JP1 after all...who should be in their 30s now...

I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out the plot for this one. They've already done the "save us from our creation" original and even "dinosaur comes to mainland" part. The only thing I can think of is the "chance dinos will go global and we must stop them once and for all" finale.

There needs to be a Jurassic Park movie every 10 years or so to keep up with paleontologists' (the real ones, oink ) latest theories on dino appearance, movement, habits, etc. The showrunners of FOX's new series 'Terra Nova' have mentioned that their CGI dinos will reflect the latest scientific thinking, but let's face it - there's only so much they can do on a television budget. With a virtually unlimited movie budget and another 10 years of processing power and CGI technology under their belt, the results should be nothing short of breathtaking. With Spielberg behind both projects, there might be some "trickle down" effect on the TV show effects as well.

Oh, I'm sorry, were people here actually interested in talking about the potential storyline? Like anyone cares. I just wanna' see me some cool dining-dino-on-unwary-human action. Never gets "old".

OK, checkmate. My whole introduction and love of the dinosaur genre began with "The Lost World." Not the original from 1925 but the one from 1960. Irwin Allen directed and had Michael Rennie ("Day The Earth Stood Still") as the leading man plus, Jill St. John wasn't hard to look at. Rawr!

Dinos in space.

Or, Spielberg could dredge up the unused William Monahan/John Sayles script for Jurassic Park IV, which allegedly was about: "a DIRTY DOZEN-style mercenary team of hyper-smart dinosaurs in body armor killing drug dealers and rescuing kidnapped children."

Many of the creatures weren't CG at all, and of course documentaries won't match those budgets that allowed the films to be so realistic.

Looks as though SS will allow this franchise to fall into the "Jaws" syndrome anyway; retreaded to the death. What is he thinking? Has to be the dumbest idea ever. But I'll be the first in line to see this...

Anyone see Terrence Malick's recent Tree Of Life?

There were rumours for quite a while before it arrived that it would have "photo realistic" dinosaurs, as Malick is a known perfectionist.

SPOILER AHEAD:

I found the shot of the Plesiosaur to be tremendous. Talk about a dino shot done right!
The follow up dinosaurs didn't break any new ground as far as I could see. Detailed, yes, but nothing that struck me as more detailed than many other CGI creations, including the JP dinos. They did not seem perfectly wedded to the backgrounds, and thought the movements were beautifully evocative and "animal-like," there were still motion moments tweaking my brain as "artificial." So...still not there yet. In fact, I think some of the Dinosaur stuff in the JP movies is still unmatched, including some of the T-Rex attack.

And hopefully with a cast of mostly adults. Adults with some acting chops and not just an odd assortment of complete spazzoids.

Why?

Transformers was a kid's toy and cartoon from the 80's.
It's supposed to appeal to a child's mind....
