New action thriller starring MMA fighter Gina Carano, and directed by Steven Soderbergh. Supporting cast includes: Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Channing Tatum, Bill Paxton.

The trailer is a bit straightforward with it's female Bourne vibe, but maybe it's just me:

Haywire looks interesting. Although Gina Carano doesn't have many acting credits, I liked what I saw of her in the trailer. As a real martial arts fighter, she seems well cast as a woman of action. The supporting cast looks great, too.

It does look like a female Bourne, but will probably end up being mediocre at best. I've grown a bit tired of films that don't offer much more than constant fast-paced butt kicking and gun action.

Stellar cast, and an unusual director to helm this, but a tired old story, and it will be released during the "cucumber season"......

No too excited by the trailer, but I'm willing to give Soderbergh the benefit of the doubt if he wants to try something different.

It's a definite rental for me. Stellar cast with a competent director saves this one from going direct to disk. Gina Carrano has had a remarkable carreer and has obviously been handled by very good management to get this opportunity. I saw her first as an Amazon on American Gladiators where she was pretty much invincible. Saw her fight once against some crazy blonde Brazilian (she lost), but she obviously had been hotted up...now this. From the trailer, she can handle the acting for this role. Maybe she'll catch fire...or not.

I don't lurk as much as I used to and I NEVER listen. Comes from being old and cynical.

There aren't many female MMA fighters that are blessed with Gina's looks, most of them look like they got hit by bag full of nickels so hollywood will def make the most of her and her amazing fighting abilities. In fact I think she could prob kick jackie chan's butt. In the trailer, her rookie-ness acing is def evident but we'll see how it goes. Most of her scenes will involve some physical contact/movements so that will help her out more so than another girl just starting out.

Damn, call me impressed with this one and Gina's 1st attempt at acting. Now unless the rest of the film sinks like a rock this should be one cool fun movie. Watching this ext trailer no one can imagine she's a MMA fighter with no experience in film or tv. Again, really good facial expressions and emotions from a rookie. Enjoy gents...

Haywire opens on January 20. I may see it but will want to wait to see what the critics and some of you have to say about it. The early reviews collected at Rotten Tomatoes, however, are unanimously positive. Evidently it is loud, exciting, and unpretentious. What's not to like?

I see Soderbergh is back to casting skanky non-actors he has crushes for...

Looks like good popcorn fun to me!

And these guys are the supporting cast?

Supporting cast includes: Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Channing Tatum, Bill Paxton

Big names, but that's a lot of dudes. I assume there is, at least, one more hottie for the climactic mud fight scene at the end?

I honestly see big things for Ms gina carano. It's obvious she can kick, punch, and run but she's going to be filling in roles that Michelle rodriguez, megan fox and angelina jolie had early in her career. She has real natural charisma and presence and you want to like her.

Yeah. She quit fighting after the Cyborg fight. Since Santos just tested positive for steroids, I wonder if Gina will go back to MMA now that she doesn't have to fight "men" anymore.

I plan to see the movie as well.

- I think the 145lb. class is now effectively dead. Dana White isn't a fan of women's MMA in general and they were already having problems finding opponents for Santos. The 135lb. class may be the only hope for women's MMA with Miesha Tate vs. Ronda Rousey up next. The fact that they both are very easy on the eyes doesn't hurt either.

We went to see Sherlock Holmes II last Sunday and saw the trailer for the first time. After the trailer ended I turned to my wife and said "Steven Soderbergh? I've got to see this one".

Thanks to the remarkably positive reaction of the critics to Haywire, 82% according to Rotten Tomatoes, I saw it today and was pleased. The screenplay is very smart and the ensemble cast does a fine job, including the inexperienced Gina Carano. Her acknowledged physical skills were used perfectly and she is a beautiful girl to boot. The presence of Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Bandaras, and Michael Douglas didn't hurt, either. The way the film was plotted screamed, "Franchise!" and I hope it works out. I would love to see Carano's Mallory bust more heads while saving Western civilization. Highly recommended, 8 Stars our of 10.

The more I think about what Carano accomplished in Haywire, the more impressed with her I am. Despite Haywire's all star supporting cast, whether it succeeded or failed depended on Carano. I think it succeeded in spades. The girl may be on the way to becoming the female version of Jason Statham.

I went tonight with my wife and really enjoyed the movie. Great cast and the action was great. It's nice to see Muy Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA in general used in a street fight.

I only had a few gripes about the movie and it involves firearms. Not really a spoiler, but...

With all of the experts I would assume they have on set, you would think that Hollywood stereotypes would stop. Nothing takes me out of a movie faster than when I see actor racking the slide on a handgun. These characters are supposed to be professionals, yet they don't carry around guns that are loaded? Also, does no one use a IWB holster? It's not exactly comfortable to walk (or run) around without a holster.

I agree. As a result of deep knowledge gained from having read a bunch of Barry Eisler and Brad Thor books, () I have concluded that

special forces operators are trained to keep a round in a handgun's chamber at all times. There was a petty clear, to me at least, implication in Haywire that all of the people running around with guns were special forces trained players.

Maybe most movie and tv characters are trained by Israelis, they're trained to carry with an empty chamber, and quickly turn the gun sideways to rack the slide.
