A new twist on a familiar experience. Produced by Timur Bekmambetov (of Day Watch\\Night Watch and Wanted fame), written by one of the co-writers on Prometheus, and directed by Chris Gorak. Stars Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Max Minghella, Rachael Taylor.
I'll probably give it a go this weekend (out in Redbox on Blu now) as I kind of like these type of horror movies occasionally. I know that plot/story/characterwise it is going to suck, but I'm just looking for some diversion.
So I caught this, and I have to agree it's worth a rental. I guess it depends on how tolerant you are of films of this nature.
Let's face it, it's a derivative of War of the Worlds (any one of the movies or the book) and bears a strong resemblance to Skyline, so it scores a zero on the originality scale, and it's not terribly unpredictable. But for movies of that sort, it's certainly not the worst. I found it entertaining and it got better as it went along. The Moscow locations are pretty fresh, the PQ/AQ isn't reference, but isn't too bad, and the leads do an okay job of acting, especially since they're reacting to invisible bad guys, whether they're actually invisible in the story or CGI'd in later (if you see it, you know what I mean.)
I also wonder if the one reaction to the wind is a potshot at The Happening. (It probably isn't, but I like to think that it is.
hehe.. I saw it yesterday, and while there may be worse, that one sits comfortably at the bottom of the barrel. Acting was embarrassing (not that the actors had much to play with in the first place) and the story was ordinary to say the least, no back story, no tension, I didn't feel anything when characters were killed off, some cool effects but after after 10 minutes it kind of gets redundant. My daughter saw it and she liked it, sort of, but I suspect that was because the cast was mostly young so she felt closer to them maybe. Skyline was worse, and that's really not saying much.

The movie was not the worst movie of all time. In fact, I find it a rather guilty pleasure. However, from a critic's point of view, it was terrible in every way!!
I thought it was pretty good up until the aliens revealed themselves. Then it was another "beautiful people vs. CGI baddies" movie. Although I did like the Russian army dudes and the improvised weapons.
