You have "larger attachments" (as David Hobbs would say) than I....Quote:

I'll be renting first.
The plot (as I read it) makes me think this may be designed for the Twilight crowd than others....
Maybe they should?Quote:

At least they don't shimmer.
OK, you got me there.
I think you would be pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness of the plot. I read all three books in The Hunger Games Trilogy and thoroughly enjoyed them. I saw the film in IMAX and although I didn't like its excessive use of extreme closeups and quick cuts, I thought it was excellent in other ways. Jennifer Lawrence was outstanding as the intrepid heroine, Katniss Everdeen, and the supporting cast was excellent too, particularly Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks. I preordered the BD from Amazon so should have it in hand soon.Quote:

To be honest, I am very tempted to Blind Buy.Quote:

I probably should reiterate that the extreme closeups and quick cuts were bad. The film was so good in every other way, though, that I ended up liking it a lot. Because you still subscribe to NF I think your plan to rent the BD before you decide whether to buy it is is probably the way for you to go.Quote:

I haven't read the books and have little inkling (just a rough sketch) into the plot.
This bothers me though: "excessive use of extreme closeups and quick cuts."
I really REALLY hate that B.S. cost-cutting form of filmmaking.
The cast is a BIG plus....some of my favorite actors.
So, ultimately....I dunno.
However, I DID put it at the top of my NF queue.
If I am wowed, I'll buy.
Couldn't agree more. The Saturday release date left me scratching my head too.Quote:

Can someone perhaps in the dvd business why in the heck is this released on the 18th this sat? I mean what kind of weird date to release such a big film on a sat and not the usual Tue.

OK, you got me there.
A couple of weeks back I re-watched the Blade series (after buying the new BDs).
NO question, The Man Vamp kicks a$$ and takes names...

They mentioned in the bluray review thread that rental versions are NOT lossless 7.1, but DD5.1. Anyone else heard this?

I have not heard this. If it's true that's pretty lame. Good thing I have my Steelbook coming.

Well, you got that going for you...which is nice.
Guess I will find out Saturday. The audio is supposed to be pretty good for this but no chance the room full of teenage girls in my theater will care either way.

Will be watching this tonight. I have a look if it is.
- I really doubt it was a cost cutting decision. The movie had quite a budget and it shows in set and costume design. It was most likely a stylistic choice to avoid the violence being too graphic.Quote:
