Written and directed by Joe Carnahan, this new adventure drama\ hriller stars Liam, Dermot Mulroney, and Frank Grillo.

A group of oil-rig roughnecks are left stranded on the sub-arctic tundra after their plane experiences a complete mechanical failure and crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. The survivors, battling mortal injuries, biting cold and ravenous hunger, are relentlessly hunted and pursued by a vicious pack of rogue wolves.

Second look at this film.

Tony and Ridley Scott are listed as producers.

After watching the second clip, I will venture off to the theater for this one.

After watching the trailers, I'll let this one pass.

There is NO way I'll put up $$$ to support a hysterical clarion to the masses about Killer Wolves.
It has been hard enough to re-introduce them to my state without perpetuating myths.

Oink,

I find it to be just a movie, for entertainment purposes, to get me away from the real world. The premise of a pack of wolves attacking a group of men out in the wilderness, while highly improbable, does hold some entertainment value for some.

Hey, I don't fault you for your point of view, we just have a different opinion on this one.

By the way, I used to live in Central Oregon many moons ago..... great place to live.

Unfortunately, many folks form opinions based on what they see on a movie screen.

Here is the kind of thing I was talking about: http://bendbulletin.com/apps/pbcs.dl...0107/111160390

I liked The Edge...in spite of the demonization of bears.
Bart the Bear was incredible: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bart_the_Bear

Unlike North American wolves, bears can kill, if surprised or cornered or attacked.
Wolves run; they are scared sh!tless of humans (and for good reason).

I watched this one last night.
I loved how the movie started and the airplane crash we very intense.
There was only one part that made both my son and I jump a little from our seat.
Had a good character development and some good climax.
It's not a horror movie by any means.

Ridley Scott did a great job and honestly the only thing that kind of blew was the ending

Going to purchase this movie once it hits bluray, should be a great LFE experience !!

We may not agree about Gina Carano, but I'm with you on this one.

The movie is getting great reviews, but the premise of a killer wolfpack is ridiculous to me. I thought that false stereotype died years ago.

I'm with you on this one, I will not support this film either. California just had it's first gray wolf in almost 90 years, called OR7, he's from one of the packs in your neighborhood. Some great images from the packs in Oregon.

A commentary on why this film should be boycotted.

After being shot-out many decades ago, Oregon's wolves have migrated in from a Idaho population.
If not killed AGAIN by ignorant morons, they will repopulate their native, traditional areas once more.

OR7 originally came from a NE Oregon pack.
It is common for young males to wander in search of non-related females (which is what he is doing now).
During his trek from his original group to where he is now in Calif., he passed close to my Central Oregon home (no, I didn't hear him howl) last year.
Looking at his GPS track, it is clear he has tried to stay away from areas where there are people.
Here is the only known image of him: http://media.oregonlive.com/oregonia...b07f85b37c.jpg
This was picked up on a hunter's trailside remote camera recently.

Here is another reason to boycott this movie:

Production of the Hollywood action flick The Grey was a shot in the arm for the northern B.C. town of Smithers this time last year, as star Liam Neeson, director Joe Carnahan and company filmed in the mountains above and around a local ski resort.

The movie, which opens next Friday, kept the town buzzing with its needs for gear, transportation, hotels, food and supplies. But the most oddball request was to longtime local trapper Dick McDiarmid for four wolf carcasses. Two were for use as props in the movie and the other two — well, let McDiarmid tell it.

“They wanted a couple more that they were going to try and eat them,” says McDiarmid over the phone from his home in rural Quick, about 40 kilometres from Smithers. “I guess they got to talking; I wonder what it tastes like?”

The movie’s story follows a group of Alaska oil workers who survive a plane crash, only to be set upon by a pack of wolves that hunts them as they flee the crash site. Just before filming started, director Carnahan wanted Neeson and the rest of the cast to sample wolf meat as a way of getting closer to the movie’s story of wilderness survival.

“I do a bit of trapping, so they came off my trap line,” says the 67-year-old McDiarmid, adding wolf skins fetch upwards of $100 each in the fur trade. He adds he’s never tried wolf meat himself.

“Well I guess if I was like in the movie, in the bush and starving. Otherwise I don’t think it would be high on my list.”

McDiarmid’s movie experience didn’t end after he pulled the wolf carcasses out of his freezers. The casting people liked the look of him, and put him in a pre-crash bar scene where he was seated next to British actor Nonso Anozie, who played one of the crash survivors.

“He’s huge,” says McDiarmid. “I asked him if he had tried the wolf. He said ‘I’m a pretty big man but it didn’t take much to fill me up.’”

The movie includes a wilderness scene where the survivors kill and eat one of the wolves. McDiarmid says they used lamb meat for the on-camera munching.

As to the fictional story of a wolf pack relentlessly hunting a group of humans, McDiarmid says it’s fiction. He’s read of isolated attack by wolves on humans but has seen nothing like that first-hand.

“Wolves have territories, which they do defend, but not generally against people,” he says. “If other wolves try to move in, then they’ll fight.”

As to his own meetings with wolves, “I think they’ve always been curious, you know: What am I doing? I never really felt threatened by them. I’ve seen them watching me from, I don’t know, 75 feet away and then as soon as you look at them they take off.”

Yes, I've read that. So, in this case, animals actually were harmed in the making of this film.

Thanks for the pic of OR7.

Saw this one on Friday and yes, it definitely has some HT demo material in it in addition to the plane crash. The theater I watched it in has a good soundsystem in which the audio was very dynamic. If it's the scene Shift is referring to than yes, it did cause me to slightly jump, and the 3 guys sitting in front of me definitely jumped.

I always find it amusing how people who have never seen the film can have an opinion about it. If you do not like the subject matter, that's fine and a good enough reason not to see The Grey. I have seen it and it is certainly worth seeing, for those who are interested. I would say that if anyone does see it, that you wait until the screen credits completely run off of the screen.

The Edge didn't demonize anything, they needed something big ,scary, and smart to keep up with Hopkins's wit. What do you want them to use a Moose?

Regarding Bart, a long time ago I wanted IMDB to include both Bart and Youk into the cast listing of the movie called "The Bear", for the obvious reason that they were the stars of that film, but IMDB said they couldn't verify that info, or find any actors with those name. LOL
