Based on the popular comedy\\horror novel that began as a webseries, adapted and directed by Don Coscarelli, and starring Paul Giamatti, Clancy Brown, Daniel Roebuck, and Doug Jones.

One of the few movies so far this year that I'm hearing good buzz about.

"I am NOT suffering from insanity... I happen to be enjoying myself!"

What did Don Coscarelli have to do with the Naked Lunch?

If you like crazy, and I mean crazy crazy crazy crazy, then this is just up your alley. It's plot-such as it is-defies description. Let's just say it gives Cloud Atlas and HOLY MOTORS* a run for their money for utter dementia. It seems to be downloadable from Amazon for $6.99, but you might even want to have this one around on physical media just to astound and amaze (and maybe even appall).

It's your move.

*P.S. Cabin in the Woods too

Gave it a go tonite....
SO CLOSE and yet, so far.

THE GOOD
Clever idea for a movie.
Good SFX.
Excellent cinematography....for some reason, reminded me of Barry Sonnenfeld's aesthetic for Raising Arizona.
Director does the best he can with what he has.
Good performances from everyone except....(see below).

THE BAD
The lead actor is not very good and lacks gravitas to pull the main character off.
The movie can't seem to make up its mind what it wants to be.
Although there is a story here with some potential, the screenplay never really gels and, sooner rather than later, it slows to a crawl.
WRITING, BOYS.....WRITING....

I really wanted to like this movie....alas, it doesn't work.

As Mr Wolf would say...you and I park out car in the same garage. I do enjoy good cinematography, it's something to look at in the event the movie is a turkey. And the writing and script has always been and always be what makes a good movie. I love Raising Arizona, one of the best comedies ever.

When you referring to the "lead actor"..are you talking about P Giamatti? He was so awesome in Sideways but lately he's not doing so good. Last time I saw him was in the weird one from Cronenberg Metropolis.

Paul Giamatti (I love this guy) is alive and doing very well. Ten movies completed, in post-production, or pre-production, in 2013 alone. Check out Barney's Version.

"Merlo, I told you a million times NO F---ing merlo" - Sideways....OMG so hilarious.

You know it's fascinating that a guy who doesn't have the typical Hollywood good looks like Paul is quite a feat. The 1st time I saw him in American Splendor I knew he would have a long successful career. Same goes with William H Macy who I also LOVE big time from Donny 'Wiz kid" smith in Magnolia.

You don't have to be a "pretty boy" to have a big-time acting career.wink.gif
