One of the things I enjoyed about the first one was how straight the cast played this. For as over the top the antics, it did not come across campy or lame - to me. I hope Aja can keep that same tone for the DD's.

All over this as well. Piranha 3D was LARGELY successful in what it aimed to do. Hasseholf? Yes please.

Really? A sequel? Double the DD's. HAHAHA!

Finally a film that answers the question - Why do we need 3D?

Really looking forward to this too. It was filmed here in Wilmington NC. Apparently there wasn't enough debauchery so they filmed more nudie and "smoking" pool scenes at Sly Stalone's son's house in Hollywood.
During filming in Wilmington the director is quoted "this film is about fish and tits!"

I liked the first one, but I would not hold my breath for this sequel. Without Aja directing, no Elisabeth Shue and no Kelly Brook, things don't look good. Hasseholf is an interesting addition, if put to good use. Plus, the trailer is plagued with the cheap, dull video look of the Red camera vs the truly cinematic feel of the first film. Probably a rental, at best.

That drops my expectations. Not in to horror that is too campy or does not take itself serious enough to try and have some tension.

I happen to like the look of the Red One camera. Plus this one is NATIVE 3D!

Piranha 3DD Goes Direct to DVD in UK, Will U.S. Follow?

Piranha 3DD isn't having very much luck in its journey to the screen.

The John Gulager-directed follow-up to 2010's Piranha 3D was originally scheduled to open in November until Dimension Films yanked it from the 2011 release line-up. In the UK, it appears it is going to bypass theaters completely and head direct-to-DVD.

According to the British Video Association website, Piranha 3DD will debut on DVD March 19. If you look at the site's listing, you'll see under the heading "Theatrical Release (3D)" it was "pulled from schedule." BVA also hosts the following synopsis for the film...

Horror sequel in which a species of violent prehistoric piranha continue to terrify a small town. The chaos unleashed in 'Piranha' (2010) by a group of the omnivorous fish, set free by an earthquake that split the floor of a lake, may only have been the beginning. The tests of marine biologist Carl Goodman (Christopher Lloyd) indicate that these fish were only adolescents, suggesting their parents would be even fiercer adversaries. When the piranha make their way into the town's plumbing system, the terror spreads. Soon swimming pools and even the town's brand new waterpark are infested by the bloodthirsty critters. Can the town's residents, marshalled by survivor of the first movie Deputy Fallon (Ving Rhames), find a way to combat their sharp-teethed tormentors?

The questions now are...is it going to be released in 3D on UK DVD? Also, if it is going direct-to-DVD in the UK, will a U.S. release follow the same plan? After all, Piranha 3DD, at the time of this writing, still doesn't have a U.S. release date. Dimension Films made a big splash at the Spike Awards back in October with a trailer implying that a wide run in theaters was coming, but you never know with that company. I suppose it depends, too, on the contractual obligations that promised to the talent involved and whether it was guaranteed Piranha 3DD would go theatrical.

It ain't Shakespeare, but then, if you're expecting Shakespeare in a movie like this, you're watching the wrong movie.

Piranha 3D had a shut off your your brain mentality from the start and was a blast. Hopefully, Piranha 3DD keeps the same campy balance.

So that's why you're not supposed to ask how those BIG parents even fit into a town "plumbing system"? At least the first film confined the fish to a lake.

Ving Rhames, Hasselhoff, Christopher Lloyd, and Gary Busey? And DDs in 3DD? And a leg with a shotgun in it? Where do I buy my tickets? This is one to see in the 21+ private section of my local theater, the section that sells alcohol.

Ha! That was funny.

According to Box Office Mojo this will be released on June 1st in a whopping 75 theaters. Why even bother? Should be straight to video.

Voila! On VOD today too. There's a 3D version out there but it may be anaglyph. Hopefully DirecTV has a real 3D version available because I don't think a red/blue palette will cut it for this flick.

Why miss an opportunity for a deserved few to see this on a 30 foot screen? I'll be happy to live vicariously though them.

I remember Gianna Michaels parasailing in the first one. What surprises will this one hold?

Okay, none, but that's SO not the point!

I saw this in 2D VOD. It was a major letdown from the first one.

They tease you but don't really deliver. There is MUCH less gore and nudity than the first film. Most of the DD's that are talked about are restrained by bikinis the whole movie.

It wasn't a total waste, as there is some humor. The 'Hoff' was great.

I was just expecting more.

How in the world can Hollywood NOT live up to expectations that are so low? I don't think any of us were looking for Hitchcock material here. But at least come in on the same plane as the previous release. Geesh!

Still gonna watch it though.
