Denzel Washington plays the most dangerous renegade from the CIA, who comes back onto the grid after a decade on the run. When the South African safe house he's remanded to is attacked by mercenaries, a rookie operative (Ryan Reynolds) escapes with him. Now, the unlikely allies must stay alive long enough to uncover who wants them dead.

Can someone show me how to insert the trailers so y'all don't have to click on the link. I know how to do it with photos but can't with trailers.

Well worth seeing on the big screen with a decent audio system. Well written, never drags, well shot, well edited. Great action sequences. Intense. Delivers a lot more than I had expected. A lot more than a pleasant surprise.

Hoo-Wee!! what a rush that was. Started out great and never let the foot off the pedal. I would describe it as a collage of Bourne-Training Day-True lies. Really tight action, pacing and solid believable performances from everyone...of course the man Denzel and Reynolds redeemed himself after the Green lantern to me with his focused character...good job Ryan. The only issue is that it may have been too fast and wished it could have slowed down and let things simmer and build up more with a longer running time rather than the break neck pace all the way to the end. When you have something good like this, why not let it expand and milk it. Lastly, call me sissy but I would rather prefer a happy ending...because ultimately if you have really good writers you should be able to creatively end with a happy ending rather than be "dramatic" or serious.

I think there's a bit of both types of endings actually, but I won't spoil it. I know what you mean and I mostly agree, yet I enjoyed the movie quite a lot. Terrific performances from both Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. I haven't seen Green Lantern so I don't care about what he did in it, I guess the movie simply wasn't good and he's not particularly the one to blame. Safe House is a great ride, speaking of Denzel and his commanding presence I'm looking forward to his next movie, Flight.

Even the best writers can't arbitrarily put in a happy ending. Otherwise it feels like a cheat if the movie is pushing towards a "dramatic" ending (if by dramatic you mean an ending where everything doesn't turn out all right, because some happy endings are pretty dramatic, too.) Now I haven't seen it yet, but unless the film is one of those rare ones where it could go either way, it's best to let the ending play out on the terms of the rest of the film.

I'm not against happy endings, but I do want them to dovetail with the rest of the film. Because I've seen films where it was obvious the filmmakers/writers/studio wanted a happy ending on what had been heading towards a downer/bittersweet ending and they almost always feel tacked on.

Ya sissy. tongue.gifcool.gifbiggrin.gif

The film has a lot more impact watching it the first time, especially on a big screen because you don't know what is going to happen next. Got the BR one day early and watched it. The special features are interesting. Too bad that there was no commentary by the director.

well here's your wish and others but not for me. IDK why but something about man vs trains or in this case planes doesn't do it for me, it's all very anti-climatic and I don't care what happens. Denzel is one of our last true A list actor that has the midas touch but I much rather see him doing stuff like Book of Eli or Safe house and god stop with these trains, planes and what's next cruise ships? And what a waste too with a great dir like robert zemekis

This was a blind buy for me and I watched it the other night. What a ride. Talk about intense action. If you like a good espionage movie with great action, plus like seeing Ryan Reynolds get punched in the face, you'll like this movie.

Very good movie that could have been great with a different ending. PQ and AQ were very good with the AQ approaching reference quality.

Unfortunately, the Safe House BD doesn't become available from Redbox until 3 July. Based on the mostly favorable comments here, I may rent it then.

I would have to agree with all the positive feedback. A great ride with superb action sequences (car chases, fight scenes). Definitely recommended. I planned on completely skipping over this flick (for some reason I was expecting something more like Firewall), but I'm glad I didn't.
