My wife and I watched this film last night and we both enjoyed it. Didn't know anything about the movie except for the stars and of course the title which basically outlines the plot.

This is a gentler and kinder end of the world type of story where there is little break down of society. Seems improbable given the survivor instinct usually portrayed in Hollywood movies but a nice change from the usual scenario.

Steve Carell and Kiera Knightley do an excellent job with what is a minimal story. No big special effects or visuals. It's a love story in disguise so watch with your significant other. 8 out of 10.

I watched about half of the movie and gave up.
I just couldn't find anything interesting about the characters, although the acting is very good.

Same here. I liked the premise but the main characters and the basis for their road trip just felt flat. And I never would've thought Keira Knightley could be dressed down so much. She really almost looks like someone you'd see shambling around the local Walmart.

We watched this last night. Not bad, but certainly nothing I will watch again. I’d say the last 20 minutes or so made it worthwhile. That is where the writing got better, which I found lacking up to that point.

I was expecting this to be more of a comedy than it was. It did have one big lol moment for me.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
When William Petersen got shot.

That was hilarious.

I think you hit on it.
It's a movie with Steve Carell and isn't a comedy.
Not sure I understand the point here....just seems unfocused to me.

Looked very interesting in the trailers, was it that boring?

Watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great acting and we get to see a somewhat different side to Steve Carell vs the way I assume most of us think of him being more comedy based. Its a love story and as long as you go in with that type of perspective, I think there is a lot to like here.

Also thought the PQ was excellent. Lots of close ups in this one and you could practically count the pores on Steve's face at times.

Movies are very subjective of course, but I was not bored for one second in this one. smile.gif

In a word: yes.

The problem was I just didn't care about what happened to these characters.
The 2 mains were very uninteresting.
Both were putzes and unlikeable, with nothing there to grab a hold of my attention.

Of course, YMMV.

Just finished watching it I liked it was a very nice film. The soundtrack wasn't too bad either. For me as much as I liked it, this film was only good as a rental.

This movie was better than I expected, but it could have been allot better. I thought the drama portion of the movie worked very well but the comedy part did not. It should have had a better lead actor than Steve Carell and should been a drama/romance, not a comedy. Also the assassination scene should have been cut because it was the one part of the movie that was not realistic. It is realism that gives movies bite. Silly contrived scenes are counterproductive. The director has talent and taste, and maybe her next effort will be better. This was a OK DVD rental, but not a go-to-theater movie.

Carell is an odd duck.
He can be hysterical or cringe-inducing.

I didn't realise it was meant to be a comedy. If it was your right it definitely failed cause I did not laugh one bit. As a drama it was a nice film I felt sorry for Steves character.

I liked this one, considering the almost worn-out premise of the film. Maybe because I could relate to Carell's character since I'm about his age and living alone again. The film showed quite a cross-section of how a variety of people might react and choose to spend their final days, which I liked. Everything from the last few people still going to work to the restaurant scene near the end where everyone was rolling. I enjoyed this much more than 4:44 with Dafoe.

I watched this one tonight. I thought it was a wonderful piece of work, personally. I enjoyed it a lot and it really moved me. There's actually a ot of humor in there as well, but very subtle.

I watched this last night with my wife. I liked it more than she did, but I thought it was totally believable that different people would react differently to the coming apocalypse, and I think it showed those different people well. One thing my wife pointed out which is either biased or even racist was how the gangs destroying things were all in the city, and once you got to the suburbs everything was peaceful with no crime, etc.

I thought the leads were good, and even though my wife hated Keira Knightly's character, I know some young women just like her. I think her character's transformation was well done and I would recommend the movie rating it about 3.5-4 out of 5.
