Not Total Recall, imho. Why can't they just make these movies and .... oh, I don't know, make up a new name to go with them?

Total Recall 2012... rated PG13.

No, the theatrical cut is the only existing cut. Matt is referring to material that Verhoeven had to cut to get the R rating.

What? He had a 4-breasted alien woman he had to cut to 3?

Why not just have a 5.1 breasted woman. And your need to 7.1 hands to fondle it.

If I recall (haha) and it's been a while since I've read it, but We Can Remember it For You Wholesale only mentions Mars, I don't think Quail actually goes there like he does in the movie. Maybe the plot will be similar in this one?

The trouble with most of the big screen adaptations of PKD's works is that they are based on his short stories... so the screenwriter has to add a bunch of stuff to beef up the content. Next was one of the worst examples of this, because the film doesn't even resemble the original plot of his story ("The Golden Man"). Minority Report changed how the pre-crime worked (in the original, just thinking about preventing a crime prevented the crime). Imposter added a whole second act that wasn't even in the story.

I will probably see this movie, if only because I see every movie that is a PKD adaptation. The man was a drugged out genius, and everything he came up with was pure gold. I don't see why his stories aren't idea-mined more often.

As you can see from the Summary, the movie TOTAL RECALL really didn't use a lot of Dick's story.

Yup, I love the 1990 Total Recall too, but it's really a Paul Verhoeven and Ah-nuld sci-fi action movie, and not much of PKD. I can see where there's plenty of room for something truer to the spirit of PKD's story. Also, I really can't stand the infamous eyes-popping-out scenes in zero pressure, they are stupid beyond belief.

It looks like an unnecessary remake. However, I have a seriously hard time staying away from Kate. I might have to venture out to the theater for this one.

From having seen the trailer, I see what they're trying to do and now I get it. This isn't really a remake; more of a re-imagining similar to TV's epic 'Battlestar Galactica' re-do. They were totally different animals. Closer to PKD is a good thing, IMO; guy was a frakkin' genius. Both films can exist and be valued on their own merits. I'm in.

Remember or rather totally recall seeing this at the Drive-in, and after the Movie ends, most the packed lot was honking their Car Horns in approval.

Sharon Stone in her prime looked pretty good.

I picked up the Total Recall (2012) poster for my HT as I thought the upcoming release looked fairly interesting. Seems to be a different take on the original short story and since both movie versions are loose interpretations there is certainly room for more than one version. I think the latest trailers are giving away too much of the film's visuals but I'm still game to see it this August.

I was in Toronto when they were filming scenes for this movie last summer, and the actors dressed up like shock troopers seemed laughable. In the trailer, you get a glimpse of them (not the guards that attack him), and it looks much better. I think this will be pretty good for what it is.

Beckinsale was on Leno tonight, she was looking absolutely stunning as always. I noticed she didn't have a wedding ring on? I thought she was married.

In other news... Why is Leno still on... ?

She is still married, to Wiseman, her Total Recall director. Unless they broke up in the past two days or something (and I don't think she'd be on Leno if that were the case.)

They've been together for a decent amount of time (since 2004, IIRC.) In fact, by Hollywood standards they've been married for a downright long time.

Don't believe everything on the Interwebz! A duck's quack DOES echo!

The Groove Tube, actually. And that part always sickened me more than the other crass stuff that film had to offer.

Getting back to the subject at hand...I've seen the latest ad for this movie, and I'm getting curious about it. I might just check it out around my birthday, since that comes just after opening weekend for this. I know it won't be too much like the Verhoeven version, but I suppose I should be thankful for that. A fresh take would be nice.

87% rotten. Ouch! But as expected.

Some friends of mine saw an industry screening Tuesday and said it had no sense of danger. Tons of chases and shootouts, but with no real world consequences. The violence "seemed like a cartoon." I know I sound like a broken record with the PG-13 thing, but this is a clear example of how PG-13 has castrated the action film. I was there opening night back in 90 and the audience went berserk during each and every bloody action scene. There was a sense that everybody was going to get killed. It was crazy.

That doesn't happen anymore. VFX have improved, but HBO and AMC now show more realistic violence than Hollywood and that is just stupid. And insulting.

Being the first of the PG13-ized Verhoeven remakes to be released, I guess this is a sign of what the others will be like. Cartoonish CGI action is what I expected as well. That might be okay for the Marvel comic movies, but nor for others.
