When an unusual classified ad inspires three cynical Seattle magazine employees to look for the story behind it, they discover a mysterious eccentric named Kenneth, a likable but paranoid supermarket clerk, who believes hes solved the riddle of time travel and intends to depart again soon.

Inspired by an actual classified ad, no joke.

What a sweet, funny little movie. Short and gets down to business in a lean and no-nonsense manner, and the always superb Aubrey Plaza is given the opportunity to be vulnerable as well as cynical.

A viable alternative to Prometheus: a movie that just makes you feel good, that touches on profound paradoxes and that ends for the ultimately loveable characters just about exactly as you would want it to.

My wife and I watched this movie this weekend, and both enjoyed it. It's one of those quirky indie movies that's hard to classify: not really sci-fi, but has sci-fi elements; not a comedy, but has plenty of humor; not an action adventure thriller, but has some action scenes. it had a bit of a Little Miss Sunshine/Napoleon Dynamite feel to it.

It manages to feature a number of believable characters in smart script with sharp and witty dialog. Along the way, it raises some questions about life, love, regrets, and the past. Nicely done all around. Some may not like the end, but that's really not the point of the movie.

Recommended viewing, and I'll be buying it eventually.

Scott

I'll be watching it a second time tonight (rental) to hopefully fill in a few gaps for myself - mostly, does the internal logic hold up to support the ending.

Well beyond your basic indie though, very nice effort all around.

Eve: I thought I was through getting involved with men who were trouble. Falling in love on a look. I can't look at you.

Mickey: You have perfection about you. Your eyes have music. Your heart's the best part of your body. And when you move, every man, woman and child is forced to watch.

This was fresh. Dude from New Girl was great as the douchey but sensitive guy and Aubrey Plaza was charming (wtf?). Totally believed the interactions between her and the craigslist guy. Wasn't No Eternal Sunshine but very enjoyable.

I had to put a vote in for this movie. If you haven't seen it, then it is well worth seeking out. Watched it as a rental, but will be buying it.

I find it surprising that this has not seemed to have found its audience yet. It was one of my top favorites this year.

Definately falls into my 'best sci-fi film that no one has heard of' category.

Quirky. I’m not as in love with this as others are (anywhere, not just on AVS), but I did enjoy it and it was worth the rental. Only a few chuckles so I wouldn’t look to this to make you laugh a lot. Basically, you have three people who aren’t satisfied with where they are in life and wish they lived in happier/different times.

Karan Soni was weak. I understand the innocence and nerdiness of the character, but they could have done much better with someone else. A different actor and I may have felt better about this as a whole. There were a couple of times I thought the acting was lacking or felt a little stilted. Sometimes it’s the writing, sometimes it’s the direction, and sometimes it’s the acting; then again it could be all three. Aubrey Plaza definitely grows on you.

Looks like I will ACTUALLY have to call (God forbid) them to get this resolved.
There isn't any way to e-mail them that I am aware of....

Watched tonite....
I just couldn't stop smiling and/or giggling.

What an excellent little movie this is!
This film is an example of how far good writing can take you.

Very early on I got a huge Juno vibe....
The misfit girl trying to figure out her way in an adult world is superbly captured.

Fine performances all around, especially by the female lead.
Folks, this is an actress to keep an eye on...wink.gif

I had similar feelings. I wanted to like it, it was quirky and cute, but ultimately it was just ok for me.

Aubrey Plaza was on one of the late night shows (Craig Ferguson?) and she was quite amusing. Her prickly onscreen persona seems a whole lot like she really is.

Glad you liked it, oink. Further encouragement for the future of humanity. Assuming you are a part of humanity biggrin.gif

I ejected with 30 minutes to go. Permascowl got old. Slightly less than ok for me. I normally enjoy this type of movie and I guess I'll revisit this at a later date. Aubrey Plaza, while nice to look at, is better in the sitcom arena where the "who farted" face is a better fit.

I think Ellen Page or Anna Kendrick would have been a way better choice.
