Today is Ebert's 70th (against the odds, he made it).

I originally started watching him when he and Gene Siskel had their original show on PBS.
Great fun to watch (Siskel could be particularly vicious back then).
Their show did start me to look at movies in a different way and for that I am grateful.
This forum can trace its ancestry to those 2 guys.

Happy B-Day Big Guy!

Is Roger's show still in PBS syndication? It stared a guy(Russian I believe) and a rather attractive woman. I watched it every week and really liked it when they would replay old Siskel and Ebert specials.
On the new program Roger generally made one review(spoken by someone else) and a cameo appearance. I haven't seen it for 6?? months and really miss it...The HD quality of the new segments was top notch but of course the old replays looked little better than VHS tape.
I'd say I watched the original PBS S&E from the late 70s and beyond.

I dunno...
IIRC, he said he is officially retired from television (after his battle with cancer and all).

As did I...hardly missed a broadcast.

The thing about Ebert, for me at least, is I tend to agree with him more than with other big-time critics.
Not always, of course, just the majority of the time.

Not only do I respect his opinions, but he is an excellent and entertaining writer.

IMO, he is the "Dean" of American film criticism.
