Yeah, sorry gwsat....even I have to call a flag on the play with that one. Granted, he's a unique talent and certainly not a elite talent IMO but a strong actor no less.

Yeah, the options were there, but it wouldn't let me select it, saying that the tv and player have to be able to play 3D. I've never had a problem before.

There were reportedly a bad batch of discs that were shipped to Best Buy and possibly Walmart. I got one at Best Buy recently, and although my projector kicked into 3D mode, the picture was 100% 2D with no depth at all. I had to clear Persistent Storage and reboot the player a few times to get it to work.

I think Andy Garcia is a world class actor compared to the scenery eating Assante. Please watch the remake of On the Beach (2000) and tell me Armand Assante was anything other than painfully bad. It might be that the guy can give a good performance with the right part and a director strong enough to rein him in but when he gets cast in a badly written role and is allowed to eat the scenery, he is hard to take.

Acting to Armand Assante is sucking in his cheeks in trying to be sexy, he does that constantly an it's annoying and distracting not to mention hammy and insecure. And unless you're Cuban or into that culture I have no freakin idea what's the big deal with Mambo Kings except 2 guys trying to be Rico Suave. That movie did zero, zilch for me...YMMV of course as it had cult following.

Both Assante and Garcia IMO have always been trying desperately to be A list actors but just never got over that hump. I never cared for either one of them in the 80s & 90s. Andy tried so hard to be the "next" Pacino or De Niro in Godfather 3 but he just didn't have the goods. He's just too laid back and chill. And his career has been pretty much behind the shadows of Cruise and other A list actors.

However, now that their career is past their prime I find them more interesting and effective as they have gotten more secure within themselves and their characters are much more watchable and enjoyable in the past 5 yrs or so. I think they have just learn not to "try so hard" and just let it flow. For example I thought Assante in Dead Man Down was quite a cool/interesting character. It was the same with Jay Leno career. As time went on, he relaxed and was more himself.

And thank you! Been trying to come up with some newish release "guy" movies for a guy only golf trip. We do it every year to a buddies cabin in central Oregon and usually put on a flic or two that don't usually appeal to feminine sensibilities. Dredd would be perfect for this but it was your wife away line that jogged my brain!smile.gif Just need a few more...

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Dredd-Producer-Gets-Real-About-Dredd-2-Development-42835.html
Quote:
Adi Shankar is a producer who has helped bring such testosterone-driven movies as The Grey, Lone Survivor, Killing Them Softly and Dredd to the screen. After remarks from Dredd star Karl Urban got the internet a buzz for the possibility of Dredd 2, Shankar has been forced to step forward and set the record straight. In an interview with Dweeb Cast (above), we learn it's not as far along as any of us may have thought.

To be frank, Adi Shankar seems frustrated by all the Dredd talk online that--by his estimation--makes it seem like Dredd 2 is guaranteed when it's not. He breaks it down:

"I'm going to tread lightly here. I feel like Karl made a small statement that got blown way out of proportion by news sites. Yeah there are conversations going on (about making Dredd 2), but I wouldn't automatically go like, 'Oh there's conversations going on, so when's the release date?' When there's no ****ing script."

From there Shankar admits, he's the one "freaking out and leading the charge" of these conversations. As to who he is having these conversations with, he's vague on that, but quick to point out that the first Dredd didn't have studio backing. It was essentially an independent film, and it looks like Dredd 2 will be as well. "That changes the dynamic immensely, right?" Shankar explains. "Every country has a different distributor that bought the movie, so every one of those distributors has to sign off."

Essentially the future of Dredd 2 depends on the producers securing overseas sales ahead of production, or potentially ahead of a script even being completed. But Dredd was far from a hit, domestically or overseas. It only played in the U.S. for six weeks, and in that time the $50 million movie made just $13 million at the box office total. By contrast, Captain America: The Winter Soldier made more than that in just it's fourth week in theaters. Overseas, Dredd netted just $22 million, resulting in a worldwide total of $35 million. Meaning Dredd was a flop no matter how you look at it. So selling a sequel overseas will likely be a major battle for Shankar.

Still, Adi Shankar is hopeful despite Dredd's box office failure because he believes the first reboot has "built an audience over time." Moreover, this producer is passionate about this project. "I'm a fan of this stuff," he says, "I'm not some douchebag in a suit who thought they could make a lot of money doing this. If anything the movie business is in a state of decline. Not an upswing."

That's not to say he's given up. If Dredd 2 doesn't work out, perhaps a Dredd TV series could be spun-off. "There's so many avenues to go with this," he insists. So in short, Dredd 2 could be coming. Eventually.
