This is another of those that it's hard to be sure there's not been discussion of. There are a lot of threads that use the term 'side effects' somewhere in them. But, just in case, I figured I'd make sure it got a little love here.

This one is obviously quite low budget, and given that it's pretty heavily anti-big pharma that probably 'splains why. Probably not too many big studio owning corporations want to risk losing out on all that potential ad revenue and whatnot. But someone obviously coughed up a little bucks for it, perhaps purely because Kathrine Heigl agreed to do the lead role? But I think that they did a good job even with the limitations. They didn't waste any of it on gratuitous production values, and just stuck to the important stuff, that I can see.

Anyway, KH plays a drug company sales rep, who really isn't suited for the life but kind of got suckered into it because of the lure of a free company car when she was a broke now ex-student with lots of bills and selling cell phones. She is getting more and more disillusioned and finally meets a fellow co-worker who puts it into perspective for her and she plans to quit 6 months later. In the meantime she sort of 'goes rogue' and stops caring, and the results are not what she expected, and that of course leads to complications.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, despite the limitations that you can clearly see on the screen. It has an interesting vibe to it. And of course, absolutely worst case, Katherine Heigl is a complete baby doll and you can enjoy looking at her for a couple hours, so you can't really lose either way. Some folks may take it as complete left wing propoganda, but I think that when it comes to the big phama companies there's probably enough distruct to go around on both sides of the fence. And it's almost always light hearted and funny, not a heavy handed attack. And it's not so much about the drug business iself as how the whole drug sales rep system works.

Anywhoo, I liked it, and you might as well.

That right there is a bit of a stretch. The profession is highly competitive, and "usually" requires a medical/biology related degree. She definitely meets the attractiveness requirement though. All the female pharma reps I know have MBA's and look like models.

She did have a degree, but it was in political science. And of course having an MBA doesn't make you any more competent to sell drugs than having a political science degree, I would think. Well, it makes you probably more competent to SELL drugs, but not any more competent ABOUT the drugs you are selling, which was a big aspect of the movie.

I guess I should have mentioned that Kathrine gets semi-nekkid. That might make more people interested in it.

How semi is "semi"? She's got some nice assets, and that would probably be all it would take for me to buy in. redface.gif

When trying to be PC, I usually call them Ta-Ta's. Arch calls them Assets. To each their own... smile.gif

I've discovered how to double my reviews' views. Just put the work nekkid in them.
