What will the difference be? Less violence to begin with. Story here:

Do you not believe there is politics in the military, just as everywhere else? I was in the Army, what branch did you serve in?

Another remake that doesn't need to be made. Unless it has more violence and gratuitous nudity, of course. That might make it worthwhile.

I recently watched Starship Troopers and I think it's a quite a sly riposte of itself. But what I really want to see is a movie version of "Bill the Galactic Hero". ;p

Another subversive element that probably pissed off moviegoers...(stop here if you've never seen the movie)

The good girl dies and the bitch lives! Not the typical Hollywood crowd-pleasing ending but I appreciated the cajones of Verhoeven for doing it.

As for the remake, I have ZERO interest in seeing a watered-down version. I mean. why not just call it G.I. JOE 3? Yawn

What I liked with Verhoevens movie was that they filmed it like a propaganda movie of the federation, dont think I have seen any scifi movie like that before. And since I served in the military when I saw the movie I really enjoyed the fun it played at various military stereotypes. Im also weak for good movie scores and Basil Poledouris rarely let you down.

I also have no problem with a remake done in another fashion. If its wellmade its wellmade.

Good movies are as rare as an on topic discussion.

AVS is not the website to discuss politics. Please remember this is a home theater website...our mission is to focus on HT hobby.

If it's not possible to discuss this film without a political discussion, then this thread will need to be closed. Sorry, but it's a slippery slope.

I didn't say one word about whether I agreed or disagreed with Heinlein's politics in any of my posts that have now been purged from this thread. My problem with the book had nothing to do with Heinlein's politcal leanings, but rather the fact that, as a piece of literature, the book is terribly written and tedious.

I disliked the Starship Troopers novel for the same reason that I dislike books and movies that attempt to pander to my own political leanings. They are inevitably sophomoric and boring. I prefer stories about characters who have personalities and do things, and aren't just mouthpieces for the author's political diatribes, no matter what side he's on. This should not be a controversial statement to make.

As I tried to say earlier, if this reboot movie is actually faithful to the book, it will be the most boring movie ever made. Because nothing at all happens in the book, except for the main character sitting down for long-winded sermons from his teachers and his commanding officers, over and over again.

Yeah, I thought the trigger got pulled a little too quickly this time as well. This movie provides plenty of meaty topics for discussion, and not every bit of politics needs to be purged if it's relevant to the topic. Heck, even the fishin' posts got flushed! eek.gif

On the topic of deleting posts: Please keep in mind we get over a 100 report posts on a slow day. When we have to clean up a thread that has gotten misdirected, there will be times we delete posts that maybe were fine or a portion of the post violated policy (which requires us to be a copy editor) or you were quoting the problem post in question (again copy editor issue). The real world issue is we don't always have time to do some of the "little things". My apologies. Time to move forward.

Apparently everyone thinks they can make a movie better now. What made this movie was the large amount of violence, cheesy 1 liners and the shower scene. Take that away and its not a man movie anymore and being sci fi makes it not a chick flick. Are they going to explain why we are fighting a planet full of bugs on a foreign planet that if left alone will not harm us?

Question: does a Report Post message to mods result in said messages being deleted automatically?
If that is the case, maybe we shouldn't have a button for it?

If anyone can hit the button for any post they might want removed we would have, in effect, members engaging in outright censorship of others.
I can completely understand why mods would delete or edit posts, but having members hitting the Report Post button 100 times or more a day is frickin' ridiculous IMO.

I think the book mentions that as we expanded into space, we ended up having border incidents with the arachnids, which eventually led to them destroying an entire city (Buenos Aires, where the hero's parents lived), after which the full scale war was on. Don't know whether the new movie (if it is ever made) will treat it as our fault for disturbing a hornet's nest or their fault for responding disproportionately or a combination of the two. Or they may not feel the need to explain why we are fighting, but simply establish that the story takes place in the midst of a war.

Wouldnt mind both of them to be in the scene actually. Just get rid of the one that talks about joining the federation because she wants to have a baby. smile.gif

Why is it that, more often than not, the gals we want to do nude scenes are not the gals that actually do them? That seem right to you?
