What options are there to play SACD's? Just stand alone players? Are there any drives for computers that play them? Any way to download SACD files and play them off a computer with hdmi or optical out?

Not sure about SACD's, but they put DVD-A capability in some cars a few years back and there were codecs that allowed them to be played on computers. Don't know if they're still doing that. Heck, I don't know if they're still making DVD-A's for that matter...?

SACD hardware is heavily licensed. There are no PC drives that can read them. A PS3 or set-top player is your only option. It is possible to play DSD files on PC with appropriate decoder and software, such as Foobar2000. However there are no legitimate sources for files from SACDs.

Also, SPDIF outputs are prohibited from outputting anything from an SACD.

And only the first couple of models of the PS3. They dropped it sometime during the "fat" PS3 run. None of the slims to my knowledge do SACD.

Don't believe everything on the Interwebz! A duck's quack DOES echo!

There are a number of DVD a Blu-ray players that can play DVD-A and SACD. I'm using the Oppo BDP-93, and it rocks.

and for a more economical venue, my Sony BDP-S370 does a very good job of it, most Sony BD player will. Also in the same tone, the Pioneer BDP-140 will also read SACDs.

If you can swing the ca$h, the Oppo 95 is the best audio player out there.
Its sound chips are to die for...oh, and it can play 3D BDs too.wink.gif

Nearly all of the current Sony BluRay players will play back SACDs and send the signal to a receiver over HDMI. If you need analog outputs for SACD, your best options are one of the Oppo's or a used universal player, such as the Denon 3109.

AT&T U-Verse Northeast Ohio

Denon x4000, Samsung LED TV, B&W 704 mains, two M&K subwoofers, Oppo 103, etc.

Then don't f***ing worry about the 3d. I'm getting sooo bored with righteous posts againsts 3d. Don't care for it... fine. But leave it up to the individual to decide.
