Bringing this up because I was backstage with Dean Sams of Lonestar over the weekend. He told me that his son was up for the part. It finally came down to him and Asa Butterfield ("Hugo") and the nod finally went to Asa. Suppose to come out next year with Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

You can get some info and some mild spoilers from Orson Scott Card here:

It's being made by the director of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the kids are all 7-8 years too old. They're also almost certainly shooting for a PG-13 rating.

Lower your expectations accordingly.

I'm not sure it would be possible to make a live action version of this with kids the same age as in the book (similar to Game of Thrones). I always thought that this had to be an animation but I guess I'm wrong. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was pretty dumb so I hope you're not right about that.

Yeah, that's a good point. It would take an exceptional group of young actors - mature beyond their years, especially Ender who would have to be brilliant - to accurately portray the boys in the book. They're rare. I hate to say it, but casting slightly older kids who can act may be the better part of valor. But they should be as young as they can get them. It's a challenging casting process but if you really wanted to do it, you could probably find the right cast at close to the right age.

That's an important part of the book. How young these kids at the Battle School are, how important it is to identify the leaders early. And Ender is the youngest of all which makes it all the more difficult.
