I'm just curious about the movies that others would rank a 5/5. The only ones that come to mind for me are (there may be more if I thought about it a while):

1) Matrix
2) Toy Story 1
3) Inception

I have lots of movies that I really enjoy watching, but don't make the 5/5 cut. Movies like Transformers, The Avengers, etc. etc. Fun to watch, but fall short for one reason or another.

Dude, are you made of leprechauns? Cause that was awesome!

Wow! Those are impressive lists!

For me, the difference in a 4/5 and 5/5 is usually subtle. There are several movies on both of these lists that I really like, take Star Wars, or The Green Mile, or Pan's Labyrinth as examples. But for each of those movies, there's some nagging bit that keeps me from making it a 5/5. Pan's Labyrinth is a great example because I love that movie, but the subtitles are just annoying enough that it makes it a 4/5 for me. And only because I can't watch the film and read the dialog at the same time. That movie has some amazing visuals!

Of course, I suppose if I'm nit picking then even my list of 5/5's has problems, too. But I'm just going to ignore that biggrin.gif

oh lord.
A movie gets a 4/5 because of subtitles.......

why don't you ask some one to read them to you while you watch?
The human brain can EASILY read subtitles and see a motion picuture at the same time. After 10 minutes of watching Pan's or Hero I don't even notice that I'm reading.

Nah. It would probably earn a 3/5 if I had to listen to the same voice for all the characters. wink.gif

There are a few movies on these lists that I haven't seen. I'll have to remedy that!

maybe you should ask for 10/10 movies.

some movies are too good to be called 4/5 (80% or B grade) but not quite good enough to be 5/5 (100% or A+ grade)

I see what you're getting at, but I'm really just looking for those 100% movies. Be it 10/10, 5/5, or 20/20.

Maybe clarifying why I'm asking would help. I really enjoy watching movies, but with two small kids in the house, jobs, school, etc., etc., I've got very little time to actually watch any movies. So I was hoping to get a list of everyone's best of the best movies. Trying to make sure I don't get a dud, you know biggrin.gif

Not to be a thread killer, but you could go to the thread on infinitely replayable movies and get a lot of the same movies that you'll see suggested here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1426656/what-infinitely-replayable-classics-have-you-watched-at-least-ten-times

Just sayin'

but no movie is absolutely perfect, so no such thing as 5/5.

You should ask for 95/100
