This is the 2002 version starring Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce and the late Richard Harris. Also Luis Guzmán who seems to retain his street-wise accent from Carlito's Way and our first look at Henry Cavill who would later become Superman in Man of Steel. The film grossed $75 million worldwide on production costs estimated to be $35 million.

The original story was written in 1846 by the famous Alexandre Dumas (his pen name), a prolific writer who also created The Three Musketeers. According to Wikipedia there are 12 film versions of this story and there were articles circulated last year that a reboot of this story was underway with David Goyer directing.

So say we all!

There will be a long forum outage this morning with new software installed. I hear everything old is new again.

I would expect some disruption for a while, but will try to sneak one more under the wire...

All about movie-making, not strongly plotted otherwise. Truffaut plays someone like himself and we have lovely Jacqueline Bisset.

In French the filming technique is called "American Night".

We've come through the forum conversion more or less intact. Images are attached and sized differently, and the spoiler tags did not get copied correctly. I'll fix up the scoreboard in post #2 , but the spoilers giving historic answers for the other posts will have to fend for themselves.

So, now...

That looks like Australia, so my first thought was Rikky & Pete, of which I remember nothing else.

Correct. A pretty quirky indie flick, worth a watch if only for the fantastic machines.

Correct. When originally released on DVD, this was one of the MGM butcher jobs in 4:3 letterbox format and called "widescreen". I've got the R-4 release which is PAL P&S full screen. Available to rent in HD on Amazon streaming, not sure if its 16:9 or what. I think there may be R-2 releases that are 16:9. Its due for a BD treatment. I still think its one of the younger Streep's best performances.
