It is! I reviewed this a few years ago: Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975). The images there are from the DVD.

A lovely Blu-ray just appeared from Criterion. I have more new snapshots here: Picnic at Hanging Rock, Criterion, June 2014

Saw that movie in the theater (one of about 5 people in the country who did). The non-anamorphic DVD looks like garbage.

Of those 5 people, maybe 1 or 2 understood it. I think I have it on Laserdisc, but I'm too lazy to dig those out. I think this was another MGM DVD hatchet job that was called "widescreen". Pretty sure its OOP now, and I don't know if any other releases were actually widescreen.

The DVD was a port of the Laserdisc's non-anamorphic letterbox transfer. The movie desperately needs a proper remaster, but I doubt that MGM would ever expend the money on something so obscure.

For those who are interested: Open two AVS pages simultaneously - upload file from your computer on one page - enlarge tumbnail - drag this enlarged tumbnail from one page to the other page.
