Rare 2.76:1 aspect ratio.

David Mamet, explaining why he can't stand Laurence Olivier's acting, pointed to this film, noting how everyone in it refers to him as "Mahhdi," but Olivier insists on pronouncing it gutterally, "Macch-di," "as if to correct the pronunciation of those, fedayeen or thespian, one would have supposed to have been his colleagues."

I revere Charlton Heston, but he shares responsibility for this, as do the writer and director.

It was on TCM a week or so ago. I was interested in the history of "Chinese" Gordon and had always heard about the film.

What a turkey. Another one of those Cinerama films in name only. They packed a lot more into it than two hours and ten minutes could adequately cover, and yet they gave it an intermission.

Dementia 13 (1963)

It was my immediate thought. But for some reason I abandoned it and spent some time running through a few Mario Bava titles in my mind. But no. Gotta' go with Dementia 13. Roger Corman and Francis Ford Coppola's Dementia 13, that is.

In the end, you are correct! Review: Dementia 13 (1963).

That's Casino Royale (the remake), and poor, poor Vespa.

Casino Royale again! Can't get away from the Bond Girls.

Correction: that's not Vespa, but Caterina Murino as Solange. I know her otherwise only from the British TV series Zen with Rufus Sewell. They made only three episodes, which is a shame because it was clever and features lovely Italian locations. Good Blu-ray, too.

D'oh! I got them mixed up in my excitement to be first. I knew everyone would know this one...

Vesper. Her name was Vesper. Vespa is a motor scooter and while Bond may ride both of them, one will certainly be more enjoyable than the other.

Your wild stab penetrates the heart of the matter. The first appearance of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. Seriously: I am not making that up.

Honestly, it's not that thrilling for an adventure picture. A nice feature is Barbara Rush:

...who stole my heart when she wore a strapless evening gown and wielded a ray-gun in It Came From Outer Space (1953):

Yeow.

"Vespa" is also an undiscovered planet of the North sky.
