Really fine in that intersection of talented-funny-sexy.

The film itself: zany madcap ridiculous with extra silliness on a base of excessive goofiness. Sometimes funny.

I enjoyed this film, but I admit, there were very few laugh out loud moments if any.

I did! (which is fine; double dips are definitely allowed here, I do it all the time). Review: No Highway in the Sky (1951).

Small trivia bit, but over a decade before No Highway was filmed, Jimmy and Marlene had an affair, and conceived a child, while working together on Destry Rides Again.

For those that haven't stumbled across any of Dietrich's many memorable quotes, this little sample might be of interest. A memorable actress, and a memorable person as well.

A good guess, and a correct one.

I had a couple of alternate shots picked out that would have been much harder to guess, but this image really struck me.

A lucky shot, based on:

  • B&W, scope ratio
  • retinue, common in Italian pictures
  • That could be Marcello M.
  • Recently on Blu-ray from Criterion

After posting it I kicked myself, thinking "should have gone with 8 1/2". Looking it up this morning I see that one was not scope ratio.

I'm always up for a Elmore Leonard story. Even when the studio fiddles with it too much, the quality is always unmistakable.
