I would have thought hitchfan would have scooped this one up on day 1.

The great Karl Malden in I Confess. Growing up I've been a fan of Montgomery Clift since Red River.

...but you got the film. Review: I Confess (1953).

This is not top-shelf Hitchcock, but Clift is very fine in it.

That's the one. I reviewed this a while ago: Henry V (1989) and posted some shots comparing the DVD and Blu-ray here.

The Blu-ray is not a very excting upgrade.

Ding! I believe this is one I've reviewd: Bend of the River (1952). It features the steamboat and that must be Stepin Fetchit in the background. Another Anthony Mann western with James Stewart.

Two of the women, Julie Adams and Lori Nelson, starred as swimsuited lovelies in Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) and Revenge of the Creature (1955), respectively.

Yup. Here's an example of a large ensemble of character actors who carry the film. They don't make actors like these any more.

Correct. The Homesman (2014).

Directed by and starring Tommy Lee Jones, Hillary Swank, Miranda Otto, John Lithgow, William Fichtner, James Spader. Meryl Streep, Tim Blake Nelson, Hailee Steinfeld, Sonja Richter and Grace Gummer (Streep's daughter). Score by Marco Beltrami.

I figured it was going to be a stark and occasionally grim movie and it was - everything from the cinematography, locale (New Mexico standing in for the Nebraska Territory in the 1850's) and the March weather.

Three women driven insane by the harsh living conditions have to be transported back east to Hebron, Iowa where a church will take care of them. The job of taking the women to Iowa eventually falls to Swank's character with Jones as an unwilling participant. The story, as they say, is all about the journey.

The film was given very limited distribution in the U.S. and made little of its $16 million budget back. I thought it was a very good film and worth a watch. 8/10.
