Well, I tried to sneak a western past you in the dark of night. Maybe next time.

Ward Bond was a national treasure (of Ireland and the US). Just saw him as the bus driver ("Oh, yeah?") in IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT. I don't think he did a single role he didn't imprint with his signature talent (maybe the cop in THE MALTESE FALCON). See also: Nat Pendleton.

I just happened to have watched this at a friend's house last night. It's The Gambler with Mark Wahlberg. It was nothing to write home about, but an entertaining couple of hours. Jessica Lange was particularly good.

Correct.
I disagree though, I think its one of those rare examples of a remake that works in its own right. Exceptional cinematography and dialog that's far and away better than the average Hollywood drek. The entire cast is excellent.

Don't get me wrong...I enjoyed it. I just thought it had a "been there done that" kind of feel. It was certainly far from dreck though.

Is that Back to the Future? I remember something happened during a time travel visit that changed the name of the local shopping mall from Twin Pines Mall to Lone Pine Mall.

That could be an inside joke, with so many films made in Lone Pine CA.

Correct! It tickled me because when you see "Lone Pine" you think of the desolate desert region used for hundreds of western and science fiction films. See List of films shot in Lone Pine. I don't recall the town itself featured before.

I recently watched Tusk. The movie was almost over before I recognized Haley Joel Osment.

Based on a short-lived comic strip:

It's blaxpoitation-lite, although with some good talent: Carl Weathers and Yaphet Koto, for example.

Coming to Blu-ray soon, along with Coffy and Foxy Brown, which are better films. Grier provides stupefying boobage in all these early films. And I mean that in a nice way.

Round 7 has now completed! King of the forum is... Kilgore!

Runners up:

  • rdgrimes
  • NorthSky
  • hitchfan
  • Mr.G

Complete rankings are shown in the second post of this thread.

Note that for this round we initialized players to their negative score of the previous round. Kilgore climbed out of his -26 handicap to a +25 final score.

Round 8 commences now. I'll initialize the scores the same way as last time: everyone with a positive score will start with the negative value of same. This is our attempt to lengthen the rounds and penalize the high scorers for seeing too many movies.

I hope everyone is having fun and finding new/old movies to watch.

Thank you for playing!

Mine's a Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1003 Civil Defense siren. Because nothing else suggests the importance of my message.

As for yours, I can only guess. War film, color, airfield, 20th century period piece... Empire of the Sun?
